This is a children's book, and I'm almost positive it was actually a series of books that came together. I read them from 1997-2005 probably. The books were very small and almost square, and had pages that were that really thick cardboard used for children's books. All the characters were animals, and the main characters were this family of bears that owned and ran a bookshop. The plot was basically about the bear child getting bored in the bookstore and stacking the books into various elaborate shapes (kind of like window displays some real bookstores use). Some of the shapes included a train, a bed (in that part it showed the bear child falling asleep in the book/bed), and I think there was also a castle. There was little to no dialogue in the books, mostly just the pictures I think.

Rebecca, are the illustrations: simple or detailed, realistic or cartoon-like, painted watercolors or bold graphics, color or black-and-white? Do they remind you of a similar illustrator or children's author?
The illustrations were in color, and very detailed. They were more on the realistic side than cartoony. If I had to guess I would say it was probably colored pencil illustrations.
I also just remembered that one of the things they built out of the books is a boat, like a sailboat.
"Badger's book store" by Lorna Hussey ? It's badgers instead of bears. When Papa puts Billy in charge of the Badger twins, Billy tells them to clean all the shelves in the bookstore while he plays. The twins decide they can have fun too and build many things with the books.
Here is the Worldcat description

YES!!! Oh my gosh, that's it! I just googled the title and literally just one picture came up from someone selling it on Amazon, but it's enough to recognize it. I had forgotten about the other books until reading the titles again. I can't believe you found it!
