read around 2010/2011. i remember that the mc got gum stuck in her hair and had to cut it, which was a huge issue for her, and i think her name was sara/sarah but I could be wrong

Any chance it could be one of the Alice books by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor? She's not the main character, but a character does gum stuck in her hair in Alice In-Between.

I don't think so, I remember the cover being a more cartoony illustration and I think it was fairly new when I read it! I'm also pretty certain it was a standalone
