15.6. Tax Day

April 15 is tax day! Read a nonfiction book about money, economics, or finance. No specific genre is required, but the GR description must clearly indicate that the book involves one or more of these subjects.

Cait S | 738 comments Would this one be okay? The Cartoon Introduction to Economics Volume One Microeconomics by Yoram Bauman

Wanted to make sure it didn't look too art focused to count :)

graphic novels/comics work for 15 point tasks, so you're okay with this.

Beth Robinson (bethrobinson) Please confirm Ninety Percent of Everything: Inside Shipping, the Invisible Industry That Puts Clothes on Your Back, Gas in Your Car, and Food on Your Plate. The description talks about the meaning but doesn't name it clearly and Economics is on the genre page.

sure, that one fits the task - clearly about economics

Wanda (wanda71) | 1770 comments I would like to read this book-Cohen Brothers: The Big Store. This is a story about a large family owned departments store in Jacksonville, Florida which was my home fro birth to 18. This store was such an integral part of the economic development of downtown Jacksonville in the 20th century. Would it qualify for one of the topics?

This really doesn't fit the task - it appears to be a book about the history of one store, not about economics or finances.

Elizabeth wrote: "Is The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference ok? Economics genre is there."

Sorry, this is not a genre listed task, so the listing of that as a genre on the main page is not dispositive. I've read the book, and while it's an interesting book, it's not really about economics, money, or finance.

yes, this works.

message 19: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 923 comments I actually found this on my kindle (been sitting there forever, and noticed that it has the economics genre. In the description it says, "Beer was first made in the Fertile Crescent and by 3000 B.C.E. was so important to Mesopotamia and Egypt that it was used to pay wages." Impact on trade/economy throughout history among other things of course.

A History of the World in 6 Glasses

I was thinking of putting it elsewhere, but thought it was worth asking if it would also fit here?

Thanks!

Sorry, it looks interesting, but doesn't really seem to be about economics, but more the history of the beverages.

No prob. I already have a hold on something else at the library that definitely fits so I'll just slot this in the other task. Thanks!

I'm glad. My problem always seems to be that I have 2 or 3 books I want to read for every task.............

message 25: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 923 comments I'm lucky if I just have 2-3, Sandy. Some of these task options get a little scary when I start making lists. lol.

Trying out Kindle Unlimited for a month so I was flipping through to see if I could swap any in for tasks.

Would Get Rich, Lucky Bitch!: Release Your Money Blocks and Live a First Class Life fit the bill?

Seems like less of a dry read than the one I have at the library (and I already feel like I have the principles of that one down anyway).

Thanks!

Sorry, no, that's not really a book about finance, money, or economics - sounds interesting, but it's really history.

Sorry, this is a task about money, economics and finance. In theory, any self help book would help you get ahead, but that's not what this task is about.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 4447 comments Sandy .. can you put each of the approved titles on a separate line (or link to the covers instead of the titles). It's awfully hard to read them when they are run together.

Thanks.

Sorry, no. Listed genre is not what matters in this task - it's a book about money, finance, or economics. I've read this, and it isn't about any of these things.
