Well it definitely sounds horrifying! And since it is about a large group/community of people, or society at large it just might count. Someone (Nadine I think) posted a good definition about what a social-horror is on that thread, you might want to go there to check it out.

Clean Sweep is such a great book! It would work well for the "a book about a secret" prompt.

Well #40 is easiest because you pick a past prompt that works.
#25 a book about a secret seems the next best option because the inn's are hidden from humans. You could also say Dina lives a double life, #46, for the same reason.
Did you read Ilona Andrews last year?

Depending on which edition you read there is one with a tiger on the cover, it would also work for found family, past prompt a book about books.

message 411: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 125 comments I think it would fit best under social horror. Man made disaster if there was something done by humans that made the disease spread faster. But a virus on its own, unless created in a lab, isn’t something I would consider man made.

I have seen Stardust recommended for parallel reality, because when he goes over the wall he's in a different world.

I am currently reading Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert. I know this was the February group read of #18, but I didn't read it then. I read The Bennet Women by Eden Appiah-Kubi for this prompt.

So my question it, does "Get a Life, Chloe Brown" fit in any other categories or maybe even "The Bennet Women"? I could switch either of them.

The Hobbit would work for any of the following prompts: "a book set during a holiday" (Durin's Day and Yule), "a book featuring a party," and "a book that takes place during your favorite season" (any season would work).

Courtney Jayne | 1 comments Hi everyone,
This is my current TBR list. Can anyone think of some prompts any of these would fit into? Some very obviously fit into a prompt but I have already fulfilled certain prompts so was hoping for other ideas of where I could slot these in before spending money on new books.
Thanks so much ❤️

The Tattooist of Auschwitz
The Stationery Shop of Tehran
Dead Until Dark
The Storyteller of Casablanca
Rachel’s Holiday
The Family Upstairs
Ugly Love
Boy Swallows Universe
Only a Monster
Bridgerton - When he was Wicked
Bridgerton - To Sir Phillip with Love
The Island of Missing Trees
Medusa
Confess
The Nowhere Child
The lovely bones
All your perfects
The Inheritance Games
Without Merit

message 437: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 780 comments Dead Until Dark could work for “afterlife,” as it features vampires. I think The Lovely Bones would also fit that category. Both would also fit a previous prompt of a book turned into a movie or tv series.

message 438: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 125 comments Lovely Bones = afterlife

Bridgerton books = did you read any last year? If so, different book by author you read last year. Both could count as secrets, Michael hides his love from Francesca starting in the first chapter and Eloise hides her letter writing from her family.

Inheritance Games = knife on the cover which could count as cutlery

Family Upstairs = some may disagree, but I think it’s perfect for “found family” since she literally finds family.

Dead Until Dark
I see two obvious possibilities. Sookie, the shifters, and the vampires all have big secrets, as well as the women who are murdered (#25). Additionally, Sookie and the shifters are definitely leading double lives, since they pretend to be normal humans (#46).

The later books would be a better fit, but you could stretch it to a ‘non-patriarchal society" (#3), since the vampires don’t care about gender in leadership—it’s all about who created who, and who has gained the position. There are nearly as many vampire queens as kings in the US (and Sookie lives in a region ruled by a queen).

You could also stretch it to two points of view (#48), since you get the mental dialogue and point of view from another character at the end. Once you’ve read it, you’ll know what I mean, but I don’t want to spoil the ending.

They fit prompt #12, a book about the afterlife. If you read something by Anne Rice last year they would fit #29. New Orleans is also paired with more than a dozen sister cities (prompts 49 & 50):

Merida, Mexico; Pointe Noire, Congo; Tegucigalpa, Honduras; San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina; Juan-les-Pins, France; Matsue, Japan; Innsbruck, Austria; Maracaibo, Venezuela; Durban, South Africa; Florence, Italy; Rotterdam, Netherlands; Batumi, Republic of Georgia; Klaipeda, Lithuania; Rosh Haayin, Israel; Orléans, France.

The Book Thief could work as social horror, man-made disaster, book about a secret or book about afterlife.

If you stretched the prompt, The Time Traveler's Wife could fit someone living a double life (both in the past and present).

Hidden Figures is set in Hampton, VA, which has four sister cities: Southampton, UK, Vendome, France, Anyang, South Korea and Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. I'm not sure if it will help, but there might be something set in Southampton that helps.

I used The Tattooist of Auschwitz for man-made disaster. It may also fit a double life.

The most obvious for the Bridgerton books is "made into a movie or series in 2022". It's been a while since I read them, but I think they all have two POVs. They're set in London, which has a few sister cities that are popular as novel settings, including Berlin, Moscow and Beijing. In When He Was Wicked, the hero has a secret. Most Bridgerton books also feature a party at some point, and if i remember correctly, a party at the beginning of the book is pretty important in Sir Phillip With Love (though, again, it's been a while).
