Jess (coffeeshopthrillers) | 131 comments These sound really good and they're all on my TR list

These Toxic Things
The Overnight Guest
On a Quiet Street
The House Across the Lake

message 54: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9483 comments This will be no help whatsoever but these are the ones I've already requested from the library:

On a Quiet Street
The Club
The Overnight Guest
Mouth to Mouth
The Old Woman with the Knife
The It Girl
We Lie Here
The House Across the Lake

They all will come in by Oct except maybe The House Across the Lake where I'm #201 in the queue!

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments #201 - yikes Carol!!
I'm leaning towards The Old Woman with the Knife .. not A knife, The knife. and several others. The Bullet That Missed even. LOL we will never be able to choose

message 56: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandin954) | 1276 comments I have The Old Woman with the Knife on my list to read.

Does anyone have a non-fiction book to nominate? I always enjoy our usual foray into the real world each year.

message 57: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9483 comments I read two non-fictions in the last few months but I don't think I'd nominate either--not sure they're the right fit.

I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer. Not everyone wants to read about serial killers but it's well-written if that strikes your fancy.

Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson is superb but a little heavy and off-topic for our mystery group.

message 58: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Sandi, we do enjoy our non-fiction book, let me see if I can come up with one; and yay for your vote for The Old Woman with The Knife.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Sandi - for our consideration of a Non-Fiction book I have had my eye on A Witness of Fact: the peculiar case of chief forensic pathologist Colin Manock by Drew Rooke. True crime about a former forensic chief pathologist in South Australia. I love books set down under.
American Cartel: Inside the Battle to Bring Down the Opioid Industry by Scott Higham about the Opioid crisis hits closer to home. I haven't checked it out yet...

Both look interesting. Like you I find Australia fascinating to read about.

That does look good plus I was just able to recomend the audio from Overdrive.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Sandi: Shall we add for maybe October? What do you think Carol?
I've read Caste and the Golden State killer book already and the first two I mentioned look harder to get on audio.
It's good to know you may be able to get the audio of the Hayley Campbell option. Audible has it for preorder, I think my library turned off the recommend a book feature or it was never available as an option from Libby. I'll have to remember to go look for it on release day next Tuesday. All the Living and the Dead: From Embalmers to Executioners, an Exploration of the People Who Have Made Death Their Life's Work

This looks good, Ann and Sandi. I'd read it. Coincidentally, I just finished listening to a Fresh Air interview with the author of American Cartel: Inside the Battle to Bring Down the Opioid Industry and want to read it but it may be too soon; I just finished the TV series Dopesick which was unputdownable (or whatever the viewing equivalent of that term is) but devastating.

message 65: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9483 comments I requested All the Living and the Dead: From Embalmers to Executioners, an Exploration of the People Who Have Made Death Their Life's Work and there are two people ahead of me so it may be awhile before I get it after it's release on Tuesday. If others get their hands on a copy and start reading sooner I may get it on Audible.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Carol and Sandi: great, I will add it.. thinking October with our upcoming The Ink Black Heart in September already. As always, we can start whenever we get our chance to. What a mouthful of a title: All the Living and the Dead: From Embalmers to Executioners, an Exploration of the People Who Have Made Death Their Life's Work!

message 67: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9483 comments That reminds me, I wonder where I am in the queue of The Ink Black Heart. Such a great title. It reminds me of The Tell-Tale Heart and Heart-Shaped Box, both 10's in my book.

message 68: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Carol: I preordered it with an audible credit. The thirty hours (!!!) length makes it potentially a tough one to manage on a three week loan unless I drop everything to start it when first available.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9483 comments You have a point, Ann. I may do the same. I'll wait a bit longer to see if it comes in. I think I have it requested from two library systems, lol.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments I've just added two group read books, both from our "must read authors" list. We have enjoyed group reads from Peter Swanson, The Kind Worth Saving and Richard Osman, The Bullet That Missed; so I didn't think anyone would mind.
The Thursday Murder Club book is coming out next week, US publication date is listed as 9/15/2022. The Swanson is early 2023.

I'm excited to here about a new Thursday Murder Club book :)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9483 comments Just throwing it out there, not sure I want to read it yet. Iain Reid, author of I'm Thinking of Ending Things (a group read) and Foe (not a group read) has a new one out or coming out: We Spread which sounds suitably creepy.

message 73: by Ann (last edited Sep 29, 2022 07:05PM) (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Carol: We Spread is definitely a good possibility! (And creepy looking!) I had already had it on my tbr list.. Let's see what others think, we do have a slot for one (or two) more for the year. ;)

I have it on my list too,

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Carol and Sherry: I added We Spread by Iain Reid to the group read shelf for Nov-Dec. This might close out the year for us unless something else pops up.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Getting a jump on January 2023 we had mentioned The Old Woman with the Knife previously - what do you all think of adding it for a January 2023 Group Read book?

message 77: by GailW (new)

GailW (abbygg) | 520 comments I own it. Haven't read it yet. So good for me.

Okay with me I guess.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9483 comments Hello all,

I just got an email from the Harvard Bookstore and put a couple of their M/T recommendations on the Request List at the libraries:

The Twist of a Knife--Anthony Horowitz
The Enigma of Room 622 by Joel Dicker (search couldn't handle this for some reason)

I don't know where we are for our group reads for 2023 (well I could probably just look, LOL) but those are some options.

message 80: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Carol: I have been intending to start a 2023 group read thread, I'll do that in a bit. Isn't it crazy to almost be the new year. I have an idea or two for next year as well. I see the Horowitz book is a series, new to me, and it's book four. You'll be encouraging me to read out of order! Lol

LOL indeed, Ann. I've read them all so wasn't even thinking!
