wow, i am so invested in this. just started reading today, and i'm already closing in on the halfway mark. i've never read ronald malfi before so i'm really excited to check out more of his books if this is any indication of his usual work.

I've read half his books or so and haven't read a single not good one yet. CWM has become my fave of his, but I've rated all the others I've read as 4-5*.

Starting right now, just wanted to wrap up my last read so that I had less distractions. Ok, my mind is ready.
or is it..
or is it..
What high praise, I wasn't able to read when I said I was going to but I'm picking the book right this instant, now if I can just get off Goodreads to actually read it.
On chapter three. Malfi writes in such an addicting way. The book is beautifully haunting. Didn’t expect such an emotional book when this was picked but I’m definitely here for it..
Around 100 pages in and for me, the story is just starting to get interesting. At least so far, I'm having a little trouble connecting with the main character and haven't felt drawn into the story the way I'd like.
I’m close to the half way point. So far it seems more like a mystery/thriller than horror, but still very interesting.
Warren wrote: "I’m close to the half way point. So far it seems more like a mystery/thriller than horror, but still very interesting."Warren, it's definitely more of a thriller then horror but there's some great creepy moments in this book as well.
I don't trust anyone and any word I'm reading, I keep thinking "this is a trap" lol.. loving this!
On page 180 now. Agree with everything y’all are saying. Malfi’s writing style is so immersive it’s insane. Book is more of a mystery but it’s laced with such eerie atmosphere that I almost feel like Allison’s ghost is in the room with me when I read it. Really enjoying my experience so far!
I’m loving all the comments from everyone!I loved this book and think I read it in 2-3 days because I just couldn’t put it down. Malfi’s writing is so damn good!
Just finished it. This book was OK. I liked the way it was written in first person, but addressed to the narrator's wife rather than to us as the readers. The plot itself was kind of pedestrian - a very standard mystery/thriller. 3 stars from me.
I finished this earlier today and omg! I freakin loved it so much! It was so good and suspenseful! If I could listen to a book this good every day, I might not hate my job so much!
I'm on page 150, trying to find any crumb of time I can to read this, it helped when Goodreads was down.
Finnished: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...That was only three stars for me and then only because of the epilogue. Not really a horror, just another serial killer “thriller” with few thrills.
Hi everyone! I didn't feel that this a traditional horror. More like a slow-burn mystery fiction with supernatural touch reliant on investigative elements. It seems that the book was written to fit TV-series format and feels formulaic in places. Not a bad story, in my opinion (can be perceived as horror, in some sense, especially towards the end of the book), just didn't excite me much.
I agree, I didn’t think it was really horror but I still loved it. I was in the edge of my seat, biting my nails!

Same--I loved it!

I'm still early into this, but I'm already feeling similar to Warren, Lena, and Maksim. We'll see if that changes the further along I get.

That was how I was--changing theories right and left--loved that!

I have like 40 pages left but I was so tired last night that I didn't want to read it like that, so ready to finish now :)
I'm about one-third done, and finding it compelling to read. I'm so curious as to what's going on - I'm a sucker for this sort of story. I'm hoping the payoff lives up to the suspense. I liked the element of Aaron's translation skills being facilitated by a certain aspect of his brain, sort of an alter ego. That's an interesting thought, considering how difficult it would be to translate these two languages in particular. Malfi is leaning on it a little hard at this point, though, and I hope it doesn't veer to overuse. I agree that this is more thriller than horror. Enjoying it quite a bit so far.
Just finished and all I can say is wow. Malfi definitely won me over with this one. Beautifully haunting… if you go into reading this one with the knowledge that it is a slow-burn supernatural thriller than you will be quite impressed. I’m so happy this was picked for the group read. I love the relationship between Aaron and Allison. It felt real and nuanced (which is insanely important for a book like this to work). The Author’s note at the end made me tear up a bit as well, really sad stuff. Can’t wait to see how everyone else felt about it!
finished this last week, but didn't have time to share my thoughts until now!i really enjoyed most of the book, but i found the ending to be just a hair disappointing. (view spoiler) i am absolutely in love with malfi's writing now tho. can't wait to read more of his work.
I haven’t had much time to read (story of my life lately) but so far I like it a lot. I’m close to halfway through, hoping to finish this weekend.
I'm a bit of a slow reader and I breezed through this in a few big chunks which was super satisfying, but the closer we got to the ending the more I resembled my cat getting a bath.. like noo, I want to see but I dont!
Ugh it reminds me of another book I read this year but I can't say what, but it fkd me up the same way a bit. Love it, thank you Alan!!
