I am a super fan of the friends to lovers trope. I think it's the best trope ever, mostly because the characters' feelings are more believable, you know? there's always some tension...
i don't know, sometimes the enemies to lovers trope is not very well written, the characters start to have feelings for each other out of nowhere...

Totally agree with Emilia!
The tension can be wonderful to read, but I feel like I've just read too many poorly written enemies to lovers.
Friends to Lovers has been done poorly as well, but it feels much more relatable and you can see it build more immersively.

Friends to lovers all the way all day i think they just understand each-other more most of the time and the tension but some enemies to lovers hit different
I think they can both be good with the right characters though I really love the comfort that comes with a friends-to-lovers story line, like it was meant to be and the characters are falling in love with someone they already know deeply and love in a different way.
Enemies to lovers because I just think that it's more entertaining.
enemies to lovers...
i cannot stop raving about how much I LOVE enemies to lovers to my boyfriend
its like
can you imagine... you hate someone so much... but somehow.. someway.. you fall in love... everything you hate about them you slowly realize you're starting to like and it's like all this time, how could you have hated them ever???

Honestly, I agree with most people here. Enemies to lovers is more entertaining and friends to lovers is more comforting. For me personally, enemies to lovers is just a fun read to spend time. But friends to lovers is something I can really relate to in terms of how I view love en how i would like my life to go. Not a lot of hate to a lot of love, but love to more love to even more love. So I'm definitely with the friend to lovers trope!
Enemies to lovers is easier to do well, BUT harder to make the actual relationship still interesting. Friends to lovers is hard to do well, but once they're finally together, it's almost always good.
Friends to lovers is my lady jam!! I loved People You Meet on Vacation for the friends-to-lovers, slow burn, second chance romance.
Friends with Boundaries by Brooke Kane
is a second-chance, friends to lovers, slightly-sportsy romance with slow burn and a HEA (no cheating)! If you liked this book, you may want to try it on KU! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

definetly enemies to lovers but not the type where you don't like them and after 2 weeks you're a couple. I want an enemies to lovers where they trie to kill each other and they have this tension no-one talks about THIS
My favorite trope is friends to lovers because it usually feels more authentic and there's always fun tension with the slow burn. But when enemies to lovers is done well, it can be so much fun. My best example of an excellent enemies to lovers book is Samantha Young's Fight or Flight. It's so funny and also emotionally charged (and spicy).
Enemies to lovers!! imo the tension and banter is just amazing.
Both tropes are great! Friends to lovers has that deep connection, while enemies to lovers adds exciting tension. I lean towards enemies to lovers—it’s like the surprises I think about while trekking in the Everest region!
I feel like enemies to lovers has more elements that capture and wraps us into the story a little more sooner into the story whereas the friends to lovers trope is harder to get into because nothing much maybe seems to be going one whereas as the relationship progresses, then it gets spicier and more happens. I find it hard to get into friends to lovers just because I haven't read much of that trope but I'm open to great suggestions!
its got to be friends to lovers as they tend to understand each other more and are more comfortable together and u can really see the love blossoming but enemies to lovers is hard to strike a balance because its either they hate each other too much that the love element came out of nowhere and doesn't make sense or they don't hate each other enough to be enemies so it doesn't have that same feeling. they are both great tho!
enemies to lovers!!! especially if the main characters are actual enemies and has a deeply-rooted hatred against each other and not just shallow rivalry.
Enemies to lovers! Anyday! It's like they already have seen the worst sides of each other but they still end up falling for each other.
Honestly, I feel like both are really good, yet enemies to lovers really give that kick. It's like once said in The Hating Game - "there is a fine line between love and hate". I do love a great friends-to-lovers book just because of the comfort however, I do prefer the riskiness of the enemies-to-lovers trope!
I agree that enemies to lovers tropes can be poorly written and sometimes I find them unrealistic as the characters "hate each other" I love friends to lovers. The characters already have a connection and you get to see their journey to finding each other. I think there is just so much depth to friends to lovers books
i know that people love the enemies to lovers trope because of the tension, but i love friends to lovers because of THAT tension. knowing you wanna be with someone you already love, but the fear of ruining a friendship holds you back. THAT.
I'm a sucker for a friends-to-lovers trope! Especially when there's a slow burn. But enemies-to-lovers (when done well) is also great.
I just found out recently that I like friends to lovers better than the enemies to lovers trope too.
