► UNSOLVED: One specific book > Juvenile? fiction series. Parents trying to make an AI (artificial intelligence using science, facts & computer), but kids might have better idea (? ideas, emotions, art, photocopier to input data). Simple codes? Bad guys try to steal it. Read 1992-1994.

Debbie Kirchner | 7 comments I read this series back in 1992 or 1994. The parents were trying to make an AI (with science and facts) but their kids thought they had a better idea (? ideas, emotions, art) added other stuff. The AI works and of course some bad guys tried to make a play for it. I think the books have some simple codes.

Debbie, would you call this science fiction?

Is the AI (artificial intelligence) a robot or special computer/ machine? What are the parents' jobs and who do they work for?

Debbie Kirchner | 7 comments It was a computer. I think the kids used a photocopier to input data. I don't remember the parents jobs or who they work for. I think the area was isolated. Maybe an island? I remember the kids in a basement or a cave. The kids were excited that they had made the AI work and it told them it was both the parents and the kids together made the AI work. I really wish I could remember more. It is like an itch in the back of my head. Frustrating. The books were fairly thin paperbacks.

Debbie Kirchner | 7 comments That sounds right Kate. Bruce Coville was an author that I use to read. I will see if I can interlibrary loan it to make sure. Thank you.
