Spoilers. This was a fantasy adventure novel. A group of people end up in a parallel world. There are two guides who have every journey they take magically appear as a tattoo in their skin. They are being hunted by a bad gut who at one point kills a boy by blood eagle, which his companions dint agree with. The bad guys kidnap one of the guides and try to skin him alive to use his tattoo as a map. The other guide kills his companion to stop it. The female protaganist falls in love with the other guide. The group discovers the bad guys are trying to find a way to earth which is paradise compared to this world. Probably 90s or early 2000s. Set up like it could have a sequel

Hi Kris, not The Skin Map but that looks like a great read. I read the book in 1990s/early 20s. It was a new looking paperback at the time.
There was a young man, and older man and a woman. They all worked together in some way and were not related to each other.
I do not recall how they got there. They may have been taken against their will
