Hail, o Star of the Ocean,
God’s own Mother blest.
Ever sinless Virgin,
Gate of heavenly rest.

Taking that sweet ave,
Which from Gabriel came.
Peace confirm within us,
Changing Ava’s name.

(That’s all I have memorized from the Ave Maris Stella hymn 😅)

The Stasi (the East German secret police)

You know the Stasi would break into people’s houses and move their furniture slightly over to the left. They’d do this for 6 months or so and it would make people think they’re going crazy. It actually worked, too 😅

Mary-Therese P. | 2967 comments @Stephen, oh, gosh. I'm not entirely sure. I'd have to think about that, but definitely all the 'Basic' ones (Hail Mary, Glory Be, Our Father, The Fatima prayer, Angel of God, St Michael, Etc.), a couple chaplets (namely The Divine Mercy and The St. Michael), St. Gertrude Prayer, Prayer of Spiritual Adoption by Fulton Sheen, the Angelous.... yeah, I think those are most of the big ones, I know a couple more here and there, and I'm working of the daily prayer for priests and Thomas Aquinas' prayers for before and After Mass.

(Good on you, Mary! :) I have the basic ones memorized, too. I also know, by heart, the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be in Latin. I haven't heard of the St. Gertrude Prayer, but I also have memorized the Apostles' Creed, the Salve Regina, Memorare, Fatima Prayer, Divine Mercy chaplet, and most of the Angelus.

Btw, I pray the Rosary in the Dominican fashion, which is slightly different than how most Catholics pray it. The Dominicans don't start the rosary off with the Apostles Creed, one Pater, three Aves ,and one Gloria. Instead, the opening prayers are:

V. Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee;
R. Blessed art Thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.
V. O Lord, open my lips;
R. And my mouth will proclaim thy praise.
V. O God, come to my assistance.
R. O Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Alleluia. (During Lent, the "Alleluia" is replaced with "praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, King of Eternal Glory)

And the versicle after the Salve Regina is slightly different. Instead of saying
V. Pray for us, Holy Mother of God
R. That we made be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
we say

V. Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us.
R. That we made be made worthy of the promises of Christ

Mary-Therese P. | 2967 comments Oh, I like that! I've always been drawn to the glorious and sovereign titles and depictions of the Trinity, Mary, the Angels, etc. so the title 'Queen of the Most Holy Rosary' falls right in line with that.

Yeah, it does. I have a strong devotion to Mary, Mediatrix of all grace and the Immaculate Conception; the Miraculous Medal is dear to me. I wear mine all the time.

(@Carina, I’m glad to hear that! Keep on eavesdropping then ;) If you ever have any questions about Catholicism, I would be more than glad to answer them I any way I can. I’m sure Mary and Helena would be, too; I probably shouldn’t volunteer them, but imma do it anyways 😅)
