Anyone else regularly checking Janice's avatar for the new hint?

No, but I will be from now on! 😂

message 152: by Abby (new)

Abby | 270 comments I was looking through my quotes and thought, "You know, I haven't read The Martian in a while. I should do that!" which was immediately followed by, "But what if it fits into a task for next year?" But then I told myself, "Like what? Not set on Earth? *Scoffs* *Long pause* Wait...." Better safe then sorry?

message 153: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yep, that phase has started here too!

Sandra (sanlema) | 11291 comments Lol, Abby. We are all there, I think.

message 155: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11291 comments Janice, now we stalk you to check your avatar. In a week we will be hacking your account!

message 156: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments OMG Sandra, Yes,Yes,Yes 🤣

message 157: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Lol!

Also, whenever I have some spare time I can't help thinking: 'if only the challenge was known! this time would be perfectly spent gophering!'

message 158: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments But, I also really need her to hold off until I have started all of the books that will get me one badge (yes I need to learn to read with focus), otherwise I will find places in next years challenge for everything I pick up 🤦‍♀️

message 159: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments The time waiting for the challenge is a whole challenge in itself!

message 160: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2435 comments This is my first yearly challenge. I am halfway to earning Badge 5 because I have had a lot of down time this year. But…I am starting to lose motivation because I am focusing on some other books to read. LOL! (I am a sucker for non romance holiday books.) I can’t wait to see the new challenge, but knowing me, I love the gopher ing too and am afraid I will become immersed in that before I can finish this last badge. I know…I know. I can’t wait to see the new challenge though!

message 161: by Sandra, Moderator (last edited Nov 22, 2021 02:47PM) (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11291 comments I remember one or two years ago, I finished my last book for badge one on December 26th. I had promised myself I would not start gophering until I had my badge. It was so hard! I took a general look to the new challenge when it was posted and then never opened that thread again until I was done. I was so proud of myself. I'm not sure I would be able to do it again, though. It's certainly harder to focus now.

message 162: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2435 comments Wow! That was great stamina!

Maybe you'll need to read a book about farming potatoes and that would fit right in. You never know.

Janice (jamasc) | 60019 comments Sandra wrote: "Janice, now we stalk you to check your avatar. In a week we will be hacking your account!"

LOL! And just when I was starting to feel quite popular.

message 165: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60019 comments I know the challenge, and it is sooo tempting to start gophering, but that isn't fair to the rest of you. Maybe I should redirect my thoughts to December's challenge. There have been a couple of years where I have tied the December challenge in with the upcoming annual challenge as an appetizer so to speak. I'm tempted to do that again this year. But that would mean, I'd have to post them close together. Thinking out loud here....

🤣🤣🤣

You never do know!! lol This is why I own so many random books!

message 167: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4547 comments It seems that all my books are "random" lately. But sometimes I have one of those happy moments when I can fit one into a task.

Camilla | 2108 comments Janice wrote: "I know the challenge, and it is sooo tempting to start gophering, but that isn't fair to the rest of you."

But Janice, there is a very easy solution to your dilemma: you only need to publish next year's challenge! Just give in to the temptation!

Shannon SA (shannonsa) | 5 comments Peggy wrote: "The time waiting for the challenge is a whole challenge in itself!"

I'm with you on that one! LOL

message 170: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Wow, that's some serious self-control Sandra!

Exactly Camilla, there's really not much of a dilemma at all ;-)

@Janice: use the december challenge as a sneak peek is always fun!

Oo, that would mean within the next week! Please, please...before I'm expected to be back on my feet - or else I'll have to fake a relapse into sudden, unexplainable ankle pain to get some gophering time LOL

message 172: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11291 comments Margo, you did one ankle for the toppled, you can do the other one for the yearly challenge.

message 173: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19230 comments Lol, Margo! As long as there are no additional real injuries. Sandra!! You're a terrible influence. lol

message 174: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11663 comments It's tempting but as a toppler was worth one ankle what would I need to do myself for the annual challenge???

message 175: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60019 comments Sooooo - decision made. I will post the December challenge tomorrow and change my avatar. That will be the reveal for the annual challenge. I will post the annual challenge so set the weekend aside for gophering fury.

It was the thoughts of what I might do to myself that swung it, eh Janice hehehe

ROFL!! I don't log in for a couple of days because I am trying to READ my last two books for Badge 3, and I come to this thread and there are 62 new posts.

Abby,

I always have that same conversation with myself over books I have and want to read, and "what if" I need them for the challenge for next year???? There is just no way to tell what Janice has in store. My advice - read it now if you want to. There is always another book out there that will fit, you just have to dig a little deeper. ;o)

message 190: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60019 comments I forgot about it being Thanksgiving in the States. I guess we'll call the unveiling of the challenge Black Friday.

message 191: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2435 comments LOL! How appropriate!!

message 192: by Abby (new)

Abby | 270 comments I’m probably not going to get anymore read this month because of NaNo and family and the sheer amount of distractions I have around and I have reading plans for December so even if I don’t read it this year, I probably won’t miss it. :)

message 193: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Nov 23, 2021 08:01PM) (new)

Kristie | 19230 comments Oh no! All this talk about the yearly challenge... I decided to plan out my December reading so I can hopefully finish my first badge for this year and I just realized that I left no time for the monthly challenge! 🤦🏼‍♀️ Oh boy... I may have to have a personal toppler in addition to the December toppler.

Saar The Book owl | 2652 comments Yay, I'm so looking forward to it!

message 195: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1259 comments By Janice’s comment, I guess the big reveal won’t be until Friday? Her teaser has gotten me overly excited. I feel like a kid at Christmas. Can’t wait to get the challenge and start gophering!

message 196: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 593 comments Janice's new avatar is up, but it doesn't help me with the challenge. Thoughts? Guesses?

message 197: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Check out the new monthly challenge Leslie :)

message 198: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 593 comments Peggy wrote: "Check out the new monthly challenge Leslie :)"

Well, that's just embarrassing on many levels! First of all, I forgot she was tying it to the monthly challenge and then ... I only live 90 miles from Osoyoos and have seen that attraction many times. Insert red face here.

message 199: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Lol! Can't blame you for the first bit (so much going on!) but I had to laugh about the second part!

message 200: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11291 comments Lol, Leslie!
