Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments If we need a book with a bus on the cover for any "routes" that might come up and you love Mma Ramotswe as much as I do, here is a book for our TBR list. It is the newest story in the No. 1 Ladie's Detective Agency, set in Botswana, Africa. I just downloaded the ebook to my Nook tablet.

The Joy and Light Bus Company The Joy and Light Bus Company (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency #22) by Alexander McCall Smith

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Smart thinking Cherie!

I came across Lil's Bus Trip The brand new uplifting, feel-good read from Judy Leigh for 2021 by Judy Leigh last week. Maybe it's a sign!

Grainne Coughlan | 1322 comments The interactive element is awesome. I am glad it’s going to be a feature next year. It keeps me on my toes.

That looks really cute, Peggy. I've never read any of her books. I see that a couple of them are included with the Audible membership. Have you read her books before?

Janice (jamasc) | 60018 comments ROFL! This thread is funny.

message 109: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments @Kristie: I hadn't even heard of this author before. I think I came across it in a daily deal email, and the title and cover jumped out at me so that I still remembered it when I read Cherie's post.

well, with all work you do for this challenge, you deserve to be entertained.

I am still thinking bus rides, train, trips. but i guess we will know soon enough.

message 115: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60018 comments I've never heard of that board game either.

Christina ❤️M❤️ (christir1159) | 1 comments Oh I love that game... although I am not going to lie... the junior edition is more my speed.

message 117: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Ticket to Ride is infamous in our house for making one of our most mild mannered friends stand up and unleash a torrent of fury and swearing at her husband about what a despicable human he was (he's not, he's one of my favourite people on earth).

I think he blocked her trains from getting to Moscow.

They are still happily married and now have two children. But I have never witnessed anything like it, and we no longer play the train game with those two lol

This said, it is one of the best entry board games there is for people who don't usually play Euro games. I still really enjoy it.

Having played the game and getting blocked, I totally feel her pain. Love the game, but oh my goodness, it can be frustrating!!

message 119: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I love it too! We have a 2-3 player version.

message 120: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I play Ticket to Ride with my daughter and her boys. We just call it “the train game” and I didn’t realize that this was what you were talking about until I Googled it just now. 😊

We've played it as well, also I had to google to recognize it. It's called One Way Ticket in Finnish.

I always have to think a second too, as we also call it the train game!

Laura (Lclwags) (lclwags) | 698 comments Hmm... Busses and passports... No idea what is happening, but I'm excited! Didn't read a single book for the 2021 challenge, so hopefully I can participate next year. Also, when are they going to upgrade the app?!?!? It would be so much easier for me to participate if I could use the app.

Janice (jamasc) | 60018 comments Lynn wrote: "You know what? I've never even noticed that you did that!"

Which? Change my avatar or drag my heels? Or both?

Over the last few years, I've changed my avatar to match the theme of the annual challenge. This year, it was Mona Lisa. Last year, Marilyn Monroe (movies), Trivia was mirrored images of question marks forming a heart. Oh, and an archer for zodiac (because I'm Sagittarius). Maybe next year it will be the Starship Enterprise.

I guess we should ask that question of Jeff Bezos and William Shatner. :) Did you know that William Shatner is 90 years old? I was shocked to read that. I thought he was younger.

message 134: by Annerlee (new)

Annerlee | 2873 comments If RT stands for round trip, maybe one badge is to go on a round trip from country to country and end up at the starting point? (A book for each adjacent country to be chosen and formed using some rule or other ? That would be my type of challenge (LOL)

message 135: by Annerlee (last edited Nov 20, 2021 04:42PM) (new)

Annerlee | 2873 comments Enterprise... Space is too obvious. Possibly more in the theme of 'To BOLDLY go where no-one has gone before...'

(Edited because I missed out Boldly - quick, before Cherie gets on my case LOL)

Or .... there are bus journeys (No of bus on the front R1 to R23 or something) and they have a starting point and a destination. The challenge is finding a book to represent the stops along the way...

Can't stop musing about this challenge! Also - I s'pose I need to get the 2021 tied up pretty quickly

On the TBR list as of now. That's potentially a very useful cover. And I need to visit Mma Ramotswe again soon. I miss her.

message 140: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2652 comments The board game is called Ticket to Ride in Belgium and their are different variations in the stores, like: Ticket to Ride Junior, Ticket to Ride Europe.
In one of the other groups on Goodreads I'm in, they did a book version of the game. Was really fun!

Beth (eparks4232) | 2562 comments Jenn wrote: "when I start second guessing everything that I read "because maybe I should save this for the 2022 challenge . . . ."

I just finished 2021, and I am right there. "Oh, now I can read anything! But wait, I might need them in 2022....!" I think my solution will be to binge on all the books that aren't 175 pages (I do have some) and can never work for a challenge...

Beth (eparks4232) | 2562 comments Janice wrote: "I've never heard of that board game either."

SOOOOO much fun. But can be addictive with all the expansions. And there is an ipad version that you can play against bots (in the middle of the night while listening to audiobook for challenge when you should be sleeping...).

message 143: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19230 comments lol, Beth. I'm sure no one here would ever do that. ;)

There is? I need to look for that.

message 146: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2652 comments I still need 8 books to get my first badge. The goal was 2 badges, but that was a bit utopian.

message 147: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Lol, that was my goal too Saar. I'm only one book away from badge 1 though, so pretty sure I'll get there. And then plenty of weeks to focus on gophering for the new challenge!

Anyone else regularly checking Janice's avatar for the new hint?

Ever since this topic was started!

message 149: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Hahaha, good! Always glad when it's not just me ;-)

message 150: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19230 comments My goal was also two badges, but I still have five books to read for badge one. I'm not sure how I failed so hard this year. lol However, I still have the books on my reading plan before the end of the year, so maybe I can still pull it off? Optimism at its finest. lol

Yes, we need to keep checking on the avatar. :)
