This is a book series I read around 2014-2016. It's about a boy who learns he has magical powers (I want to say it had something to do with metal, like he could control iron or something). He met a bunch of other kids at this school and they end up running away because they were in danger. There were these wolf-like creatures that were evil, but only because they were under the influence of someone else's power. I remember the first scene was in a tent or something like that, where all the kids who wanted to go to the school came with their parents to show off their powers. The author was similar to Rick Riordan.
