What will you be eating and drinking for this readathon? Do you have music or other extras lined up for the readathon? Special lounge clothes? New kittens? (Ok, maybe kittens are less than helpful extras for readathons,.. ;) ) What are you planning in addition to your lovely TBR stack/list to make this readathon successful and special?

message 2: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments I’ll be doing my grocery shopping and getting my snacks the day before. Looking at the weather I won’t be doing much reading outside, will probably alternate between my sofa and my bed so I’ll be getting those comfy with lots of pillows and blankets. Last readathon I was not well prepped at all (the date crept up on me and before I knew it, it was readathon day), so I’ll definitely be doing that differently now lol

message 3: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Oh yes, special, warm lounge clothes and (old) kitty are essential for a successful readathon!!

message 4: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 7 comments I'm going all out this readathon and have rented a loft in a cute nearby town so I'm not bothered by the spouse or dog, lol. It's above a bookstore and across the street from the cute library, so I'll have plenty of good spaces to switch up where I'm reading. Since I won't be at home, I won't be cooking like normal, so I plan on bringing some of the usual snacks, but this year, taking myself out to lunch and dinner with a book. I also just purchased a shirt with a ghost holding a book that says "Booooks" so that will be part of my lounge wear :-)

message 5: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Sounds awesome Jamie! Usually my reading buddy and I rent a place, preferably in the woods, for Dewey’s in April. Love it!

message 6: by Dannii (new)

Dannii Elle (danniiellereads) | 350 comments I love getting lots of readathon snacks in. Veggies, crisps, and dips are always on my shopping list, as well as tons of coffee :)

I'll be mostly spending this readathon at home but am planning in a little coffee shop stop, for a change of scenery, as well.

No kitties will be joining me but I do have my adorable pup to keep my company.

Rebecka (hoppeduponbooks) | 178 comments I usually buy all my snacks the day before but as I eat low carb this year I will have to prep some of my snacks.

A cabin in the woods is on my bucket list for an October readathon at some point!

I made it to the store yesterday and came home with all sorts of treats for the readathon. I usually just have a few snacks on hand, but this time I have a cake strawberry & creme muffins, cinnamon rolls, biscotti, and all the ingredients to turn my pile of squash and zucchini into a casserole (should have something healthy even during readathons, I suppose). I also got some extra canned food for my 7 furry feline reading buddies. I tend to lose weight when stressed, so if I make it through more snacks than usual this weekend, that's actually a good thing.

Jamie | 412 comments I don't have new kittens but I do have 2 husky/shepherd mix dogs we are fostering that will be with me (in addition to my 3 regular furbabies). Not sure how much they will be letting me read lol.
Gonna be super low-key reading this round. Making my standard pasta salad that everyone can eat whenever. Might go grab donuts early on.

Hummus. Slicing up some jicama and making fresh pico de gallo (green bell peppers, not jalapeños, probably).

Candy. Haribos bears or Skittles.

Flan. Maybe.

Lexi Rose Reads (alexisschroeder9) | 9 comments I’ll be bringing my dogs to the groomer shortly after the start of the Readathon (not easy to make 3 back to back appointments for the little monsters) since Saturday is the only day I can get them in until January. But I’ll be bringing my book to read while waiting for them.

Wow - perfection!!!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1435 comments I made some spaghetti rittoni tonight and to snack on tomorrow, may also have some left over for Saturday. Going to make a chicken parmesan salad, the staples of cheese and crackers, plenty of coffee and tea. May visit the nearby starbucks for some reading ambience downtime. It's still too hot to read outside long. I do have to do some yard work with audio in between breaks so that will take care of the heat anyway and activity, although I like to do some night walks depending how it goes too.

I have to go to the store tomorrow and get some more cat food, treats, and coffee creamer and soda. I may pick up some of those mini pies since I'm reading this book called One Poisonous Pie and do like the little key limes :)

Not sure on dinner yet for Saturday night, will probably make something tomorrow but still deciding.

message 17: by Eswee42 (new)

Eswee42 | 31 comments I need to prep today! I'm thinking carrots and hummus, chocolate covered nuts and raisins, some crisps, LOOOOOOTs of tea, hot chocolate with marshmallows and for dinner an Indian Curry.

message 18: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 1654 comments Mod
I am too making hummus. I will cut up jicama into sticks for dipping and pico de gallo for toppin the hummus nacho.

When I get hungry enough I may make some cabbage with sausage with a side of beans.

A small bag of candy--children's mix.

Black tea
Green tea

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 57 comments I will drink tea and water to hydrate because I catched my usual autumn cold (I am getting better already, though), then some tuna salad and maybe some aromatic fried eggs or omlette in the next morning (also coffee, because I plan on not sleeping at all this time). I will light candles, take a bath, and go to Starbucks to enjoy some Pumpkin Spice Latte and a bagel probably.

As music I will use some relaxing or thrillery mixes on Youtube or even some epic Fantasy ones that will stimulate my brain while reading. Really looking forward to that.

Dana, what are aromatic fried eggs?

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 57 comments Cynda wrote: "Dana, what are aromatic fried eggs?"

Sorry, haha. I meant fried eggs with a lot of spices like chilli and garlic powder and so on and so forth :D .

I just expressed badly, my excuses.

We usually do queso, bagel bites, chips, and candy. I'll just be in pajamas all day and I plan on playing animal crossing while I'm listening to books. I have several audio and graphic novels to pick out of!

message 23: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 1654 comments Mod
Dana, I did think that is probably you meant. Thanks for clarifying ;-)

message 24: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 30 comments Pretty simple for me. I always have a cup of Darjeeling tea and an Isagenix shake to start my day. Then green tea and water. I plan to make salmon cakes, creamed potatoes, and lima beans for dinner Saturday! I have pecans, peanut butter, bagels and cream cheese, crackers, and cheese for snacks! I plan to make hot chocolate as well! Yum. Can't wait for tomorrow morning!

I'm sure that at least at one point during the day tomorrow I'll have all 4 cats on me or on my chair around me! It seems when I read for very long they all manage to come up at the same time at least once!

message 25: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (morr_books) | 116 comments While I am going to drink lots of water, many cups of coffee will probably also be consumed. Today I will prepare a cucumber dip, cut up some veggies, and make a taco salad for snacking tomorrow.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Anyone a diabetic here? I was just diagnosed so snacking will be "fun" (sarcasm). I also have 2 little kids and a spouse, and I am going to attempt for us all to do readathon in some way or shape.

Right now I have: mixed nuts, popcorn, lots of diet coke, and diet tea
Kids: pb crackers, granola bars, dried cereal, bananas

It will be pizza night, as usual, for dinner.

message 27: by M.V. (new)

M.V. | 17 comments I have bought all of my favorite snacks, I deserve it! Cakes, nuts, sencha tea and crisps. And I’m making warm loaded baguettes for dinner. This is almost like Christmas, haha. I have a holiday feeling.

Is there a bingo this time?

Bethany, I am prediabetic. I use exercise and diet to control blood sugars. I usually stay in the high 5s, low 6s. No grains for another medical issue means that come special days, I can have that serving of tapioca pudding, that cuppa hot chocolate, or a couple/three pieces of candy. This is my experience, not medical or dietary advice.

Once I make my selections of the candy pieces I want from my bag, I give the rest usually to one of several neighbors as neighborly tokens of appreciation. . . . When I eat the whole bag, I create problems that I do not repeat for a couple of years. One learns and relearns.

Still no new kittens yet, though there may be new kittens coming this weekend. I did finish pan-roasting a bunch of asparagus, and I'll be baking some mushrooms and zucchini next, for healthy snacks. I can only handle so much sweet stuff, but I could happily eat a whole bunch of roasted asparagus and mushrooms in a single sitting. :)

message 30: by Lynnette (new)

Lynnette | 324 comments Y’all are so organized. I’m winging it, probably not the best idea. I’m also trying to short naps otherwise I’ll be out like a light by 8:00 PM. This is my first time trying to organize in advance. So far not doing so well…

Same here Jamie! With savoury stuff I can just keep on eating but not if it’s sweet (though I do like it).

Lol, I always organise but these last 2 Dewey’s…. I don’t know, I just don’t manage. We have 4.5 hours to go and I still have to do my grocery shopping, cleaning, preparing snacks, say hi to the blogless here on GR…. 🤯

message 34: by Eswee42 (new)

Eswee42 | 31 comments Everything is different again here. I'm so tired... I decided not to burden myself with making dinner, and decided to go for soup with sandwiches. As snacks I now have carrots and hummus, cherry tomatoes, cheese, chocolate covered nuts and raisins, small packet of crisps. I can make myself a smoothy with soyamilk banana and berries if I want too go liquid and even bought a fancy mango smoothy for inbetween all of the tea! And for the evening and night I have hot cocoa with marshmallows and coca cola (which to me is like an energy drink, haha!)

Since the readathon only starts at 2pm for me, this will probably become another 48 hours readathon because I start too early and will go on after because I cant suddenly stop reading my book when I am so invested in it. :-p

Ash (essentiallyash) | 12 comments Good morning readathon-ers!
We have lots of snacks lined up because that’s how you get through a readathon right?
Jalapeño poppers, queso, salsa, cupcakes, pizza... all homemade of course. And then lots of different chips, Chex mix, trail mix, candy, and breakfast tacos! I have a monster and then a Red Bull for later.
I’ll be listening to audio books while playing animal crossing most of the day but also have a ton of graphic novels lined up.
And of course have to cuddle with my potato dog.

That is very difficult to adjust to at first I am sure! Sorry about the recent diagnosis but I hope you find snacks you enjoy that help

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1435 comments I am hungry but feel it's too early for the salad, leftover meats like spaghetti and pizza, or unhealthy foods and I don't feel like making scrambled eggs since I'll have some hardboiled with salad later, so I'm kind of in waiting mode. I may eat one york mint chocolate piece with my second cup of coffee here.

I am diabetic, and my usual read-a-thon snacks include baby carrots and hummus, a few sugar free chocolates, string cheese, nuts, fruit, and other healthy low carb snacks.
