Ellen (ellesh) | 9 comments Native English speaker. Conversant in French, halfway decent Spanish, Italian, and Russian. Would like to learn Welsh and Portuguese. Was taught how to say "I love you" in Arabic by a college boyfriend about 100 years ago, and find that to be a beautiful language, but I never pursued the language - or the boyfriend.

Aung Z. | 2 comments Hi, I'm Aung, I speak Burmese, Arakanese, and English. My wife Jill speaks English.

message 53: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 2 comments I can speak Tamil, English, Hindi and Malayalam. I am currently learning French and Spanish every day. I am also trying to learn Telugu and Filipino, but not very seriously or on a consistent basis.

message 54: by Peter (new)

Peter I speak German, English, Norwegian, and French. I also read Portuguese and the other Scandinavian languages (Swedish and Danish). I wish I could read Russian and Icelandic…

Arakanese? What kind of language is it? They called it Burmese although the country has changed its name?

message 56: by Laurin (new)

Laurin | 1 comments I speak German, English, Japanese fluently and I understand Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch well enough to read literature at a kinda decent pace, but can't really speak them fluently. I'm working on Chinese, and I did some Arabic in the past and want to get serious about that again, if I ever find the time and motivation.

I just put Marina by Carlos Ruiz Zafón on my next book to read.

Mariana Onofri (marianasbo) | 1 comments Portuguese, English, French and a bit of Italian. I also understand Spanish, but I don't speak it.

message 59: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie | 3988 comments I was on a holiday in Spain and Portugal. Portugal is wonderful!
I speak English, German, and French and can get by in Italian and Spanish, but Portuguese defeated me when it came to listening. I can read it just fine.

Very impressive. How did you learn all these languages? I speak Spanish and English, and I’ve practiced hours of French on Duolingo but I can’t speak or understand it. I’m okay in Portuguese. I got to practice it in Brazil a couple of years ago.

message 61: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie | 3988 comments I was born in Germany and kept it up after we moved to Canada. I majored in French and German in university. The other languages are self-taught, using language learning kits and Duolingo. Italian was fairly easy since I took Latin for four years in high school.
I was also highly motivated since my husband and I love to travel in Europe.

message 62: by Cleo (new)

Cleo Pau | 4 comments Romanian, English, German. I can read without any problems in French too, but I would need a bit of practice if I were to speak it. And I understand Italian, but I don't speak it at all.

message 63: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (tschwedux12) | 7 comments I speak English and German. Currently learning Swedish for fun.

message 64: by Erin (new)

Erin I am fluent in English, German, and Spanish, and can read books in Portuguese and French as well. (Speaking is indeed different; I'm conversational in Portuguese but French not as much).

I'm working on Dutch and Italian, and also learning Mandarin but will probably forever be stuck at the graded reader level...

message 65: by Tatyana (new)

Tatyana English, Ukrainian, russian.
I am from a russian speaking Ukrainian city, but started learning Ukrainian in 2014 and fully switched to Ukrainian two years ago.
Last year I started reading Ukrainian books, on the 6th one now.

message 66: by Anita (new)

Anita (neet413) | 49 comments I only speak my native language (English) fluently but I have started taking lessons to speak Russian. I've always loved the sound of it being spoken, and at the tender age of 56 I'm on my way to be bilingual!!

It's never too late! That's about when I started Mandarin... (I'm just about to turn 59...) And keeps the mind sharp (or so I tell myself!)

message 68: by Lefteris (new)

Lefteris | 1 comments I speak Greek and English

message 69: by Tatyana (new)

Tatyana English, Ukrainian, and russian.
I read English and Ukrainian books, and love that I can enjoy two worlds of books.

message 70: by Kristine (new)

Kristine | 4 comments I am very jealous so many of you know several languages. I only speak English. I desperately tried learning Spanish and French. With Spanish at my old job, the little kids would teach me words and I still couldn’t converse. That is Fantastic everyone who knows these other languages. 🎉
