SOLVED. Series of books about a High School Tomboy who plays Football and runs track [s]

Hello. There were a couple of books I ready in the mid-80's that had as their heroine a high school girl who joined the football team in one book and ran cross country in another book. I don't remember the characters names but I know she had a best friend who was a guy and who helped her train for both sports. There may have been a younger friend or sibling who helped too or I may have that confused with Freaky Friday.
They were geared toward middle or high school aged kids.
I wish I had more info but that's all I can remember.
