yep those sure are wheels! but we don't need those anymore, they were only a bonus in round 1 :)

round 2 bonus is for "urban fantasy" tag

Judy | 4065 comments We're all checked in for round 1!

Please hold off finishing anything for the next... 5 minutes... and everything from now on will go toward round 2 – GRIM REAPER!

bonus points are up for grabs for an "urban fantasy" tag so I hope that's up someone's alley ;)

Thanks to Teddie, round 2 is now available in the tracking spreadsheet and starting to be filled in...

message 163: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments For round 2 I'll start with The Invisible Library, A Deadly Inside Scoop and the 2 October BOMs The Hollow Places & House of Hollow

The Invisible Library (The Invisible Library, #1) by Genevieve Cogman A Deadly Inside Scoop (An Ice Cream Parlor Mystery #1) by Abby Collette The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland

Dunno what letters they'll work for yet, but there we go! Could someone put me down for these on the spreadsheet, please? Thank you!

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments What extra points do we receive for reading the urban fantasy? I have a few on deck if it's worthwhile...

I have put these in the spreadsheet for you, along with all the letters I could see they work for from the title and author.

The Invisible Library, The Hollow Places and House of Hollow have urban fantasy tag. We get 5 bonus points for every urban fantasy book we read to the maximum of 10 books. We currently have 8, if few more people read the House of Hollow this round we should be good.

Also, The Hollow Places isn't in the spreadsheet in the BOM tab so I don't think we get bonus points for it. If you're reading it for that reason alone then you can switch it with something else.

message 166: by Snezana (new)

Snezana | 339 comments Alyana, I saw in the spreadsheet that you put 304 pages for House of Hollow, but the official page count is 352, you can get 5 more points there. :)

message 167: by Snezana (new)

Snezana | 339 comments I also noticed that in the tracking tab it didn't register the books I put in the spreadsheet for this round, it's still 0.

Yes I noticed that but when I checked the book link on the BOM thread, it shows 304 pages so I just put that in.

Update:

It looks like the link was a mistake so I'll just change it back to 352 pages on our tracking ss.

message 169: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Thanks for explaining the bonus points and for updating the spreadsheet for Lauri, Snezana :) and yep we're not getting BOM bonus points for The Hollow Places this time around.

Snezana wrote: "I also noticed that in the tracking tab it didn't register the books I put in the spreadsheet for this round, it's still 0."

This has been fixed :)

In the interest of fairness there's usually an official word count we can claim for BOMs instead of the actual word count of the edition we're reading (which tends to be on the higher side of the most common editions).

message 170: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Second what Judy says- there is a standard word count for BOMs. I usually have benefitted!

Snezana | 339 comments I put Jade City in the spreadsheet instead of Dragonfly in Amber. I'll be reading that with a friend and she can't start reading yet, so I'll use it in another round.

Alyana | 1064 comments Wow X! That's challenging! Does it really have to start with X? Can it be has X in it? :D

I do have 4 planned books tagged as horror for this month.

message 185: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments I have two horror books I need to read for my TA class, one of which has a white cover, so that's good!! (that class is finally coming in clutch hahaha)

message 186: by Peg (new)

Peg | 88 comments Just uncovered a series of books by Piers Anthony (Xanth). Looked it up in ARBookfinder, and the word count works since it does have a tag of childrens. Has anybody read this series? The reviews are all over the place.

I do have one book ready for pickup at the library that will fit with both horror and white cover! Can we double up like that, or do we just use one bonus category per book?

We can double up for the bonuses this round!

message 188: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Whenever I spot an X book being added to my library's overdrive, I put it on my wishlist... it's time to look through these..

So far I've found:
Iron Widow
Listen Like You Mean It: Reclaiming the Lost Art of True Connection

In the past I've read
Sky Burial: An Epic Love Story of Tibet
The Girl Who Drank the Moon
Xeni
X
which I'd all recommend

I've also been saving up The Autobiography of Malcolm X but I unfortunately don't have the brains (or time) to read that at the moment :(

message 193: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Done for both - thanks!

message 194: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Is there a specific letter we need more of? I definitely can't finish my one long one but might be able to sneak in one or two short books, now that I'm finally done grading all these papers...

message 195: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments We need R's and E's since those are used twice and we are starting to run short on those. A few I's (think 2 or 3) wouldn't hurt either.

General update: We currently have just under 5 spellings with 16 books on the spreadsheet left to read - that would give us a full 5 spellings with a 6th and a little more. We would have to really push in the next 24 hours to get 7 I think.

Great job on the BOM's ya'll!

Final note - please make sure and check that all your books are on your shelves - this makes our lives a lot easier when we move and check. Thank you!

message 196: by Judy (new)
