degelle | 18 comments This was a children's book I encountered in the 2000s (so most definitely published before them) that is about the word "nobody" applying to an actual character in a "what if" context. This "Nobody" person is depicted as a person in simple black line drawings on a white background. There isn't a lot of text or color. The main idea of the book explores what "Nobody" is doing rather than the english word "nobody" and depicts him as somewhat misunderstood and lonely.

laudanum at 33, is this a picture book (about 32-48 pages) or a chapter book?

I added some details to the header/ topic title. Feel free to edit it.

Definitely a picture book.

Rainbowheart | 28682 comments Did you see my suggestion of Mr. Nobody?

degelle | 18 comments Yes! That is as close as I've gotten to finding the book because it's somewhat similar, but it isn't the one I'm looking for. Possibility: I dreamt it?

Rainbowheart | 28682 comments Did Nobody look more like a real man, less round?

Adult vs. childlike?

degelle | 18 comments If my memory serves right, he was more humanoid. As far as whether he was an adult or child, that was left pretty vague.

Rainbowheart | 28682 comments Kinda vaguely reminds me of the Not Me! character from the Family Circus comic.

What country were you in when you read this book?

degelle | 18 comments United States.

degelle | 18 comments I have read a lot of Silverstein, but not this one! Definitely in the same vein, but not what I'm looking for. It remains a mystery...

Daisy (daisyporter) | 1200 comments Could it be related to the Emily Dickinson poem "I'm Nobody! Who are You?"?

degelle | 18 comments Looked up the poem, but no! If my memory serves me right the book is very meta, addressing situations in which "Nobody did it" or "Nobody was there," but in this case "Nobody" is a somebody.

degelle | 18 comments Solved! The book can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
