Toi Thomas (toithomas) | 213 comments Greetings book clubbers.

Please provide your answers to as many or as few of the questions as you’d like in the comments below. Feel free to ask more questions if you’d like.

-
1. It can be difficult to see a character arc in a short story; did you see any characters arc in this anthology?

2. How is alternate/diverse reality used in the various stories within this anthology?

3. How do you think your favorite story from this collection came about? (If you are the writer, please share with us your story’s origin.)
-

Thank you to the various contributors of this anthology for the wonderful questions.

Feel free to also share your reviews and or thoughts on the book in your comments.

Juneta Key | 82 comments My favorite was "Haunted" I think because of the surprise and feeling it left. I love the effect it had on me, in some ways it affected me the same way the movie "Sixth Sense" did the first time I saw it.

I felt all the stories in this anthology had strong points and I enjoyed all them. Very compelling. The "Mirror People" and "Scrying Plane" and "Rainers" were other ones that really stood out for me.

All the stories I felt had a structure that showed a character arc. Shaping and structuring can be difficult in a short story were words are limited, and all these author's did a good job with that.

Ronel Janse van Vuuren (miladyronel) | 71 comments I enjoyed a couple of the stories. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Louise | 3 comments I enjoyed this anthology when I read it in 2016, and I enjoyed it even more when I read it this fall. It had a diverse collection of alternate realities. Melanie Schulz's story "Haunted" is one I'll remember for a long time. The structure of the story was brilliant. "WIN" by Sylvia Ney warmed this teacher's heart. There was something original and intriguing in each of the stories.

Toi Thomas (toithomas) | 213 comments I haven't gotten around to posting my review yet and want to answer the questions after I've done that, but I just wanted to pop in and say thanks to all who've shared their thoughts on these selections. I really enjoy reading about how others react to stories I've read, whether they liked it or not. I love talking about books and sharing this experience with others.

Toi Thomas (toithomas) | 213 comments I finally got around to writing my review if anyone is interested: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

1. I felt like WIN and Folding in Life and Death were the best examples of character ARC in the collection, but feel that they all displayed some level of development for the characters.

2. Alternate/diverse reality is used in so many ways throughout this collection, some more subtle than others, but all very clever.

3. I have no idea, but since it made me think of Dexter perhaps the author liked that or some other serial killer character or study. Oddly enough, I'm not into serial killers real or fiction, but I like Dexter and I liked the Mirror People.
