► UNSOLVED: One specific book > Book with multiple short stories, kind of like odd fairy tales, read during early 2000s with some sort of rose/roses on the cover I think. I dont remember if same author or multiple. I remember 2 stories

Amanda R George | 4 comments One story was about a teenager who doesnt get along with her sister. She is given an opportunity to pick a rose, each rose showing her a different future.
One story features a girl with (i think) a large birthmark across one side of her face. Lives out in the woods because people are unkind. But when she wishes for things they come true. She saves a guy (a Prince i think) who seems to fall in love with her but changes his mind when he sees her face and she curses him for a year.
Please help, driving me crazy.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5548 comments Aha - maybe Curses, Inc. and Other Stories by Vivian Vande Velde?

Amanda R George | 4 comments It's not, but I'd actually forgotten about this one so I am happy to see again! Thanks!

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5548 comments Hmm - I suggested it because the story about the girl with the birthmark sounds like 'Skin Deep', which appears in that collection. Maybe the book you're looking for is another collection that also contains that story?

I agree that the second story described sounds exactly like "Skin Deep" by Vivian Vande Velde, but I can't see that it's collected in any book but Curses, Inc. and Other Stories . . . which doesn't contain anything like the first story, as far as I can tell.
