Task: Task 5 - 29. Read over 750 pages in books about the same profession, teams decide which profession.
Book/cover link: Dead Silent by Pandora Pine
Page numbers with source: 271 pages, per GR
How book qualified: from blurb: -"Detective Ronan O’Mara has been tasked by his boss with the chore of finding a more "sedate" cold case to investigate this time around."
Date Completed: 10/01
Rating/Review: 4 Stars
Character driven
Tennyson was definitely affected by the loss of his gift. I didn’t like that he lashed out but I was glad the hurt didn’t last long. The mystery was definitely on the peripheral and not very exciting but it worked with the more mellow vibe of this book.

This was ok - I ended up liking it more than I thought I would a short way in. The plot was ok, but it felt as though there was the potential for more story than we got.

I liked it, but Alistair was a lot, and I felt like they spent more time planning the missions that actually executing them. I do really like the team though, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

MountainKat | 31763 comments Just a reminder for tasks like this - I need to know how you know your book qualifies! Saying MC is... is not enough - I need to know where to look to confirm your books, be it from the precis, tags or lists. Ideally, including links to the top shelves page (or list) with the qualifying tag if necessary, along with how many tags and the top shelves page number. Those are both extremely helpful if the link is broken or the tags move and both happen frequently!

I was able to confirm all your books easy enough so no corrections needed, just mentioning this for future tasks. 😊

And thanks Truitt_T for the link to KellyJo's book - that was very helpful!

message 114: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31763 comments Here is your next task!

Task 6 - 4. Read 4 books tagged/shelved as PNR or fantasy.

To qualify for this task the selected books need to be tagged as ‘PNR’, ‘paranormal romance’, ‘paranormal’ or ‘fantasy’. Tags are the only qualifier for this task. Please include a link to the top shelves page of your qualifying tag in your completion post, also include the qualifying tag, the top shelves page number and the number of tags. If the tag is MPG, just say that it is as your qualifier.

I used to be a huge fan of this series (I didn't watch the tv show), but it's been years since I reread them all. I listened to the first book, Dead Until Dark, a while back, but was underwhelmed. Happily, I decided to reread Living Dead in Dallas (tuly read - not the audio version) because it worked for multiple challenges and I rediscovered the pleasure I always took in the novels. I imagine I'll work my way back through all of them.

Not a light book
Exciting and nerve racking at times! It was an interesting juxtaposition between domestic happenings and paranormal danger. Maybe too much sex for all that was going on. The end was bittersweet though our MCs love is strong.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, Teresa! For some crazy reason, at the last possible moment I decided to join Mythology Madness from the A Million More Pages Group. Each player is assigned to a Team - I'm Team Norse - for which they earn points (my team has about 35 players). What's nice is that many of the point earning options are solo activities, so during August and September when I was still trudging through SH, I wasn't responisble to anyone else for what I read. Now that SH is over, I've joined a few monthly or 2 month games with small teams (2-4 people),

The Genre of the Month this month includes Mystery-Suspense-Thriller tags or MPGs, so I'm leaning that direction when I can. There's also a Search for Atlantis game with higher points for books off a specific list, so I'm taking that into account, too.

If you're curious, here's my post on the optional Tracking Thread with links to what parts of Mythology Madness I'm participating in: My Post

With all that in mine, my Selection for TART is Dirty Kiss from KellyJo's tbr. I've been meaning to read this one!

You have so much going on Tru!! I thought about doing NBRC version of Wheel a thon but decided it was too much pressure. Lol.

message 129: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 805 comments I know my tbr is small and very mixed - not much help, I’m afraid.

Mythology Madness has actually been very low pressure - you can be as involved, or not, as you like. I’m directing my reading a little more this month, but I’m definitely not pushing myself very hard. Mostly, what I read fits something without much effort. I’m a very self-indulgent reader.😁

Book:Deven and the Dragon by Eliot Grayson
pg numbers: 261 pages per GR
How book qualified: From KellyJo's shelf https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I loved Deven and Fiora! I liked that big bad dragon was small as a human and his soon to be loved was big and strong. Most often it’s the other way around. I liked that they had common interests and took time to get to know each other. I liked the other inhabitants of the castle and Deven’s family. There was a lot of humour and tender moments and a great happily ever after.

I've been meaning to read this for a while, so this was a wonderful prompt! I liked Cole and Jae and am curious to see how their relationship will develop in future books. The mystery was solid - and deeply personal for the two MCs. I don't think I've been disappointed by Rhys Ford yet.

This book reminds me of the early Anita Blake books. Lots going on beside the crime investigation. Has lots of world building and character history. Wish there was more on the investigation and little less relationship drama and marriage counseling scenes. Overall liked the book and will give the second book a chance before making a decision on the series as a whole.

If the two authors write under a pseudonym such as Ilona Andrews, then include a link to the pseudonym's profile page or a website showing the pseudonym is two authors. Remember to use the first edition Kindle page count.
