Courtney | 2931 comments So, does this look good, then?

1. Each player reads a book by the same author, teams decide author - no pass for this task.
Elosia James

9. Each player reads a book in the same series, teams decide. No pass for this task.
Seattle Sharks

51. Each teammate reads a different book by the same author, no pass for this task.
Pamela Clare

73. Read a minimum of 1500 pages in books by the same author, teams decide author.
Rebecca Zanetti

82. Each teammate reads a different book from the same series.
Heartbreaker Bay

119. As a team, select an author that is new to at least two of you and each teammate reads a book by that author.
Em Petrova

Which sub-genre for 70?

I think we've done contemporary in the past...do we want to just stay with that or switch it up and do historical since we all like that too?

message 53: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments contemporary works. What about mystery? I can't remember if everyone likes mystery or not.

message 54: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments I love most mystery and some fantasy. It’s sometimes nice to mixed in other genres from just romance.

message 55: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments But for that challenge I think contemporary is probably easiest

message 56: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments yeah. you're probably right. contemporary is big. I can always find a contemporary mystery hehehe

message 57: by Courtney (last edited Sep 18, 2021 10:00PM) (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments There are two sub-genre one. Last time we picked contemporary for both. I don't mind changing one....maybe not mystery, though. Those are always the hardest for me to find 🤣. Fantasy would be easy, though.

message 58: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments okay. contemporary and fantasy

message 59: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Ok, I think I have everything filled in if you want to check.

I noticed this one, and forgot to ask:

79. Read 6 books that have the same romance trope, teams decide which trope.

We had Friends to Lovers last time. Want to keep or change to something else?

message 60: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Oh, and if you guys want to check 93, we have to pick a book from a list with less than 100 books on it. I found a few and linked them. Probably be a while til we get down there, but if there's one that looks good or if you have something else, let me know. I kind of just went randomly through the romance lists 🤣

message 61: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments I think call time for the first task is going to be around 6am here, so I'll check in as soon as I'm up. The kids usually wake me up early....but hopefully not that early 🤣.

I think last time the first task wasn't something on the list, so if it's the same and you guys need to make a decision on something without me go ahead no worries. I'm cool with anything.

message 62: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments Okay. Sounds good. I forgot that I'm going on vacation tomorrow. I'll have my laptop, but I probably won't have access to it until the evenings. I will stay up and finish my book for today, but same goes for me...if there is a call that requires a decision while I'm away, please decide without my input. I can check the task on my phone and start listening.

Let's keep in mind what we all don't like -

I'm not into gore/thrillers/scary, etc.

I think Courtney is not big on mystery or suspense or long stories. No Nora Roberts/JD Robb I think.

Liz and Karen, what are your 'no's' for reading?

message 63: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments If they're too long, I just worry you guys will be waiting for me to finish 🤣.

Military suspense kind of stuff is ok, but police style mystery stories are hard for me to get into. And I don't like witches 🤣. I have no idea why. I love other kinds of paranormal books, but as soon as there's a witch involved suddenly it feels unbelievable to me 🤣.

message 64: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments I don’t really have a no. I don’t like gore or violence to children. Otherwise I will try anything.

message 65: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Here we go!

Here you go, a little early. About to head home from the grocery store, and those that know me know that is an hour drive!

First Task - All Teams!

0. Each teammate reads a book initially published in a fall month, teams decide which month.

As a team select a fall month. Fall this year is from September 22 through December 21 - so you may select September, October, November or December, then everyone reads a book initially published in the selected month of any year. For this task, use the initial publication date. If there is a date listed at the top of the editions page - use it! Otherwise I will be looking for the earliest dated English language edition regardless of format for the qualification. Please include the selected month in your completion posts.

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments I have a book for both September and November but can easily find something for the other months.

message 68: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Omg all of my books are June or April 🤣

I have One Hot December (Men at Work, #3) by Tiffany Reisz that's November on my eReader, though!

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments 150 page minimum right? I’m going to read The Christmas Pact but it’s only 161 pages.

Courtney | 2931 comments Elizabeth wrote: "150 page minimum right? I’m going to read The Christmas Pact but it’s only 161 pages."

It's 150 minimum, but needs to be the first Kindle edition, so just make sure the 161 is for the Kindle edition, and you'll be fine.

message 74: by Courtney (last edited Sep 21, 2021 07:00PM) (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Do you think this is a mistake on Goodreads?

This one looks fine:
The Christmas Pact by Vi Keeland - Kindle 161 pages

But this is listed as an edition with the same initial publication date 🤔. The title is different, though.
Christmas Deal by Vi Keeland - Kindle 135 pages

Nevermind, I'm an idiot. The second one is the German version 🤦🏽‍♀️. So, yeah, Christmas Pact looks fine.

message 75: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments Yikes! Sorry everyone, I totally lost track of the days and didn't even think about the new task being announced today. November is fine with me (I have no M&G books left, so I'm completely open for the rest of the month).

As for the earlier question about dislikes, obviously it doesn't apply for this task but for future reference I'm pretty easy...even if it's something I'm not a big fan of I can get through ONE book of just about anything. I kind of need it to be available in audio though - if you were to have to wait for me to finish actually reading a book, we'd be on the same task forever! Fortunately that's not much of an issue anymore - might be for a specific book, but for any given task I can pretty much always find something that works.

Now I'm off to find a November book!

No worries, Karen.

I have no M&G books too (I didn't sign up for the previous rounds). When I don't have my M&G list to search through, i feel a little lost when looking for books 🤪

message 78: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments I'm the same way, Chan! So much easier if I can find something on the M&G list, otherwise I have trouble figuring out where to start looking. I lucked out this time though - next up for me in the In Death series is an "in-between" book, 160 pages and with an initial pub date in November.
Ritual in Death / Missing in Death (In Death, #27.5 & #29.5) by J.D. Robb

Review:

This was just as funny as the first book in the series, which I was super happy about. I thought the second book went a little too cheesy and was trying too hard to be funny. But this felt effortless and natural, just like Her Halloween Treat. I really loved the banter in here. Both the MCs were cute and just adorable together. This is pretty low drama; most things get wrapped up super quick. So definitely a book to read when you just want something light and fun, which is exactly what I was looking for.

This book was initially published December 5, 2019 - not in November of 2020. See date at top of this page. It does not qualify for this task as the team selected November.

I will still assign another task tomorrow, but this book will have to be made up before the task after is assigned.

Courtney | 2931 comments I'm trying to plan ahead some books to have ready. If we get the Eloisa James one, I finally want to start the Wildes of Lindow Castle. But I don't know where to start! I always get confused when an author adds a prequel. Would you start with My Last Duchess (The Wildes of Lindow Castle, #0.5) by Eloisa James or Wilde in Love (The Wildes of Lindow Castle, #1) by Eloisa James ?

I think you could go either way with that series, read it prequel first or in the order they were written. Maybe Karen has more input, I know we've both read them.

I agree with Kat, you really could go either way. We both read them in order of release and that did work well for me, but I also can't think of anything in the prequel that might have been confusing if you hadn't already read some of the later books.
