Fall Read-a-Thon 2021: Team Narnia
Well done Karissa - I'm a ways behind you on the main challenge (38/52)!
I managed about 70pg of Whodunit? yesterday, and hope to finish it today (another 116pg), plus get well into something new. Maybe No One Noticed the Cat.

(And Ellie, how adorable is that dog!!)
Edit: Silver in the Wood has a few different mythological creatures, but prominently features dryads! So happy that we can cross that one off our list and get that sphinx!

I think if they're not allowing us to use an animal, then no, that's just a close-up to me.
I thought I'd at least be able to find something with a pawprint on, but no. I have these two, if we are stuck I can probably read one after my current book.

It was also the last book I needed to complet..."
Congratulations on completing the AtY challenge!

which is set in a rural town (Ogre 2), starts with a letter in NORBERT (Dragon 5), with a main character who has a pet (Sphinx 2)
One could even argue it has a green cover (Ogre 1)

When the mods update our monster stickers, it looks like we also need a Wraith and an Ogre, as well as the Sphinx. I've coloured the Sphinx rows in plans/completed dark grey, as we can't use them any more.
In the meantime, I've found some animal prints! If anyone likes cozy mysteries, this series has paw prints (which after a long discussion in the intro thread, have been considered as counting) on all the books, if you look in the big blocks of colour around the titles https://www.goodreads.com/series/1278...
In the meantime, I've finished both Whodunit? and also No One Noticed the Cat, which is an utterly delightful novella. Total pages 116 + 160.
At this point, I've used the first for Dragons 1 - light source on the cover (candle) for our second dragon; and the second for Banshee 1 on our second banshee. Obviously, if they fit better somewhere else, then we can move them.
Next, in an effort to finish our first dragon, I'm going for
as per my series suggestion above.

I've got the second one in that duology, Drowned Country in my plans for later in the week.

I really loved that - it was my favourite of this year's Hugo novella nominees by far. I'm looking forward to reading the second one at some point, too. When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain

And go us on already nabbing the Sphinx!

It looks like someone else may have added some, but I've added more yet. I show the last column filled in as AN and now we have all the way to BN. If you're not seeing that, let me know. It's great that we need more space!

Green cover looks like it's been completed by "Mortal Causes"? My current book is sort of dark green but doesn't look it on Goodreads so I was hoping that one counted.

We do have Mortal Causes for the green cover book, making the first ogre complete. It also is greener than it looks on Goodreads.

And Trish, I'm going to get that one asap since I really enjoyed the first book! It had that steeped-in-old-magic feel that I found really similar to aspects of Uprooted. I wish it was longer, so I'm happy to hear it has a sequel.
It sounds like we're on track to complete a full first round! So I guess I'll just plan my next reads at random, although I'll try to see if I can read books that fulfill the harder prompts. The one I'm finishing today is 500+ pages so that could for our second Ogre.

In the meantime, I'll try to read The Whisper Man for hand print for our next dragon if I have the time.

Karissa wrote: "FYI, I saw on the Team Challenge FAQ that for animal print we could also interpret it as being an animal track on the cover like a paw print. "
That's the theory I'm using for
.
It was weird, when I saw "animal print" I went automatically to paw prints. I didn't even think about fabrics until someone mentioned it in that thread.

What Counts:
- Animal print on fabric (tiger, cheetah, etc.)
- Animal/people footprints
- Drawings of animals (as in, within the context of the cover, it's a drawing, not just an illustrated cover)
- Fossilized animals, animal skeletons, other remnants of animals
What Does Not Count:
- Actual images of animals on the cover
- Actual images of people on the cover
- Images of animals or people on an illustrated cover that are not "drawings" in the context of the cover

I realise it doesn't meet the brief Irene secured but surely the classic stylised penguin counts?
Joyce wrote: "After faffing about and not finding any animal prints, I realise I may already be reading one. It's an orange Penguin Fiction like these:

Seems like it would count as "drawings of animals", it's not a "real" picture of a penguin as an illustration of the book. I think Emily had no idea how tricky this one would be.

We have a brand new member (30 minutes ago or so). Welcome, Caitie! Please check out the spreadsheet in the first message and feel free to ask any questions. You also can count any books you read between Sat, Sep 11 and now if you have finished any.
Hi Caitie! Welcome to the team.
I've finished Claw Enforcement, complete with its paw-printed cover, so I believe that finishes our first dragon. Now we just have to rehabilitate it, so it becomes a productive member of Team Narnia.
A couple of cover colour questions for the group:
Would people say this counts as predominantly red or orange: (Dragon 3)?
Or failing that, how about this for green (Ogre 1):
Or are my eyes doing weird things with colour again?
I've also moved the completed books out of the planning tab into the completed one, just to tidy things up a bit.

Are we good for animal prints now? I wasn't planning on reading my animal print books, so if I don't have to I'll go back to my planned TBR.

I've finished

Started Light Perpetual last night and should finish Hiding in Plain Sight: Eluding the Nazis in Occupied France this morning.

EDIT - just saw Joyce's post about the character with long hair so I'll move it to Wraith 1 (paranormal book)!

I have finished a short book this morning. Vater und ich: Roman which is a short book (under 250 pages) and I loved it. It has been nominated for the German book award, and I say rightly so!

Apologies for the radio silence yesterday - I had a guest who I was expecting to arrive about 5pm, but he actually showed up at lunchtime! So all I added yesterday was 2.5h of audio.

I've managed to finish The Hound of the Baskervilles. Being a kindle edition, figuring out pages isn't easy, but despite what the GR entry says, this version when I was reading it claimed 180pg, of which I'd read 82pg on Wednesday, so 98pg today. Anyway, it has a lovely predominantly red cover, so I've completed our second dragon.
