Hi everyone, Welcome to Team Narnia! Probably the first magical kingdom I ever read about.
I have a few books in mind. It looks like the spreadsheet isn't yet set up for us to enter things, I'm checking with Emily about it.
Dragons - 4 - a book with a red cover
Sphinx - 4 - a protagonist who solves problems
Wraiths -3 - a short book (a lot of us will have this one)

I forgot to change the settings on the spreadsheet. You should be able to edit them as a group now. Sorry about that!

I seem to have a wholly unsuitable set of books put aside but will start with Mortal Causes which has a green cover (or black and white cover with green writing, depending how you look at it

My first read-a-thon and I am ready to start! The books I have put aside for it will probably at least fill some of the prompts. Will start reading now :-)

I need to go work out my TBR for the week, but I do want to tick off a black and white for Popsugar.

I have finished my first book, a short book (192 pages).
Hier geht´s lang
We could use it for the short book, obviously (Wraith 3). But we could also use it for the character who has a pet (Sphinx 2). It is not fictional, but the author has a dog and mentions that several times during the book and there is also a photo of her with the dog in the book.
Great set-up, mods. Although being a dragon fan (and a Chinese dragon) I'm a bit sad that we have to kill them :(
Narnia was the first magical kingdom I remember, too. I read the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at school when I was 12, and then went home and discovered that we had a complete set of the books - I still have it upstairs, with a replacement Last Battle, as the edition in the slipcase had pages missing/repeated.
I'm starting the RAT on what my kindle calls page 138 of 385pg of
.
It's an alternate history about alien first contact, but sadly we don't seem to have an aliens or SF prompt to fill.
At the moment, the thing it best seems to fit is Dragon 4, given the cover. I'll need to carry on reading to see where else it may go (I suspect there will be character death, for a start).
If it doesn't seem to fit any of the others, I have plenty of other books in the starting gate.

I'm currently reading Tower of Dawn which would work for the Ogre prompt 3. A giant book (500+ pages)

I might start on my black and white book next, which is Lanny.
Great to see all the enthusiasm! I say we can rehabilitate and tame the dragons instead of killing them. We would still rescue the princess, and The dragons could be very useful for riding home on, starting fires for us in the wilderness, and so on.
Any book where you still have at least 100 pages to go counts for the game.

Yes, you can ignore "a", "and", and "the" in titles. I love that you have "Empress" in a game about royalty.

I have really started well in to the read-a-thon. Have finished reading a second book :-) and have included both the books I finished today in the spreadsheet.
Madame Moneypenny: Wie Frauen ihre Finanzen selbst in die Hand nehmen können

(So annoyed that I just finished Thunderhead the day before yesterday - it's partially set in Egypt! Ahhh)
So far, I plan to read:
Bitterblue (Dragons #5 or Ogres #3)
Dead Until Dark (Sphinx #1 or Ogres #2)
The Unhoneymooners (Sphinx #5)
and Silver in the Wood, which works for Wraiths #3, although I don't know if we have too many for that one! Will update after reading the book since I don't know yet if it'll fulfill any other prompts.
Do you all think Bitterblue counts as alliteration?

Anyways, I finished reading The Maidens today and put it under Banshee for A book featuring the death of a character.
Great job, everyone! I have put the completed books in the Completed tab under the categories that seemed to be what you intended. If they aren't correct, feel free to move them. I show we have finished 7 books already!
Please also enter your pages and/or hours listened in the first tab.

I’m about to start Ending Up in the expectation that Brigadier Bernard Bastable will be a fiery character.

No judgment, anyone! This is for fun and whatever you read is great! I am always surprised how competitive I am. When I did my first Read-a-thon, I was surprised that there were no team prizes or even an announcement of all the scores. But that isn't the point. We are happy to have everyone on the team.

I should be on safer ground with my next read Crocodile on the Sandbank which is partly set in Egypt.
P.s. would anyone consider Olive Kitteridge to be a fiery character? I have Olive, Again to hand.

I've decided to change tack and try reading a couple of quicker books before going back to Axiom's End.
So, I've finished Arrivals and Arrests first, and as it has the main page genre Fantasy > Paranormal, I've popped it in for Wraiths 1. There are one or two others it might fit we you want it to go somewhere else.

Would people say this cover is green, or black and white with a sepia tone?
I'm also adding The Tropic of Serpents into the reading plan for the week, as it covers Harpy 6 - Mythological creature - and we don't seem to have any others in the plan for that prompt.

Doesn't look really green to me, sorry.

Yes, I would say Olive Kitteridge is fiery.
Yes, I would say Olive Kitteridge is fiery.

I am, however, among a wealth of fiery characters with Amelia Peabody and her acquaintances though Crocodile on the Sandbank is probably still more useful for its Egyptian setting.
It's weird - colour is something that's so much in the eye of the beholder. I'll not try to fit it to a colour. There are a couple of other places it works.

I'm next starting Olive, Again but didn't know how to add another column to the spreadsheet.

I didn't know either, but a right click gave me the option to insert a column, so I inserted about 10 more. I assume you meant under the Plans tab, but this should work for any of them.

I have finished The Empty House, page numbers can be so misleading - this one is 249 pages but the print is big and the pages small, I'm sure it took less than 2 hours to read the whole thing!

It was also the last book I needed to complete the 2021 ATY challenge, woot woot!

This week, you will read books that will help you slay these monsters. There are a wide variety of monsters, each with different weaknesses, so make sure you are slaying the most you can to accrue points and win favor from the queen!
How It Works:
Read books to fulfill the prompts and slay monsters. When each monster is slayed, you will earn that monster's badge and points. You can attack multiple monsters at a time, and you can slay multiples of the same monster (except for the elusive sphinx!). You can also log your pages to attack those pesky harpies. Your battle strategy is up to you!

Spreadsheet:

Each tab will help you track the monsters you slay. Use the tabs to fill in books, pages read, and audio hours listened that you have already completed. Use the planning tab to track books-in-progress and hopeful books. Your queen (me!) will be watching those spreadsheets to see when you've successfully vanquished the monsters.
