Rom com HR isn't my usual kind of read, but there are some good reviews, so I might try the kindle sample and decide then. Edit: It's only 0.99c on kindle Australia. Nice.

I grabbed it too for that price!

So this is a fairly recent released debut? Unusual that it was selected! I am going in blind but it will be a couple of days.
Joanna Loves Reading wrote: "So this is a fairly recent released debut? Unusual that it was selected! I agree, a bit of a surprise it was selected, but hopefully good.
Yep. Bargain priced, and with some decent reviews, I decided to try it. I've read the first 8 chapters and quite liking it. It's a quick, easy reading style. Kinda light and fluffy with a little mystery developing. Not my usual style of read, but the MCs are likeable.
(view spoiler)
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...This was an amusing and entertaining romance with a mystery thrown in. The romantic portion read more like a Contemporary Romance than historical. A quick read. I would read the next novel in the series. I gave it a 4 star rating.
Chapter 11 (view spoiler)Maureen I'll wait till I've finished before reading your (or any) review. Glad you enjoyed.
I have just got this book off Apple for 99p. So will be reading along with you all after finishing the book 📖 I am reading at the moment. Sounds like their is humour in this story. I like a book with humour.
Shaz wrote: "Sounds like their is humour in this story. I like a book with humour."Yes there is definitely some humour. Looking forward to your thoughts as you read, Shaz.
I am going to have a break from my de Warenne Dynasty series and read this story. Starting to read it today.
After watching the video on how to make your own Pudding I felt the need to buy this book. I will be joining the new to me author and read as soon as I catch up on another book.
Darbella I don't know how much it cost to make the video lol. But she got my .$.99 for the book and I rarely buy ebooks.
Well this new author has started her book with humour and mystery. I am also likings both the MC. So up to now ✔️for humour ✔️for mystery and another ✔️for the MC
Omg! If you hadn’t watched the video, I highly recommend it. I couldn’t stop laughing at the 4:45 mark. 🤣🤣🤣@Darbella, Thanks for sharing that video! Made my day!
@Darbella, loved the video! Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed it so much I'm persuaded to buy her book and read at a later date.
I loved that video. The lack of sugar in the recipe makes feel guilty about how much sugar I am eating right now. Going off sugar from now on. The video is so funny including the fire incident.
I’m getting the book.
Up to ch. 6- I am really liking her writing style, I find myself chuckling quite a bit. The story with these two is yet to catch on but the stolen amulet mystery sub-plot adds an element of intrigue.
- Henry & Caro seem to be cute characters. Finally, after a long time, I have encountered a book with less than 10 years age gap.
- Henry's gaf seemed age-appropriate, so did Caro's reaction! I hope he has one hell of an apology line up, since this girl is no pushover by the looks of it
I'm enjoying the book. It's very funny and reminds me the Julia Quinn's books, I was always laughing about something
Stayed up till 7 am and finished the book! It was a smidge OTT with respect to multiple subplots, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. I have been reading the Victorian Rebel series, a considerably serious story, but this book was on the lighter side!Good effort for a debut novel, I hope she can make the next one a little more crisp.
The characters were consistently inconsistent and it was fun! They kept behaving like teenagers because they were on the youngish, immature side.
The story itself did not have enough clout but the romance & steam was cute. All in all a solid debut by this author, looking forward to more of her work.
We don´t do that kind of Xmas puddings in Portugal, so to me the pudding looked not cooked, eheheh!

I'm on chapter 4. Does anyone else want to smack the idotic Prig father? He lost their fortune on junk but his son is the one who lacks intelligence....really??. I'm okay if the author decides to kill him off.
Lauren wrote: "Sandra, What Christmas dessert do you eat in Portugal?"
A lot of them, but not that kind of puddings. We have a tradicional cake, called Bolo Rei (king´s cake) with caramelized fruits, nuts and raisins. but its baked not boiled. You can see in here: https://www.tasteoflisboa.com/blog/10... its pretty much this. Lots of fried sweets! ;)

I loved this book too, and thank you so much for your kind words!
Shaz wrote: "Well this was a fun read. Might be looking into reading more by this author ✍️👍"Same. Hope the next one comes out sooner, would be a bitch of a wait till July 2022.
Glad I'm not alone with the thought of doing bodily harm to the father :) . on page100 . Now I may be old fashioned by I've never had the desire to make out in a ( view spoiler) What a weird place to have a first kiss! I'll give this author a hand for creativity.
Sandra, those desserts look good. I might have to try one of them this Christmas. I'm American and we don't eat Christmas Pudding either. I didn't know pudding was ever baked till recently.
@Jan I am up to chapter 8 and agree totally with your spoiler.@Lauren @Sandra The father was just so.... unredeemable. How do you become so addicted to collecting.
Lauren wrote: "I'm on chapter 4. Does anyone else want to smack the idotic Prig father? He lost their fortune on junk but his son is the one who lacks intelligence....really??. The dad appears to be a lost cause. I'm enjoying the writing and the two protagonists so far. The author does a great job at letting us into their thoughts. So far, so good.
I've just finished the book and loved it. I think someone said the sex talk between the two of them was pretty contemporary and I agree, despite the wit bond between the two of them I really don't think that kind of talk was possible in that time frame.
So now we have to wait until July 2022 to read Anne's story??????? Sad...

Chapter 13 does anyone think that Caro's parents would leave her alone in the house with just the servants?
Merry Jewelhound wrote: "Chapter 13 does anyone think that Caro's parents would leave her alone in the house with just the servants?"Yeah that was a bit of a stretch for me. I figured it's the kind of book where you just have to go with it, or you won't enjoy it. Just kinda go along for the fun ride.
Lauren, please do. Nowadays there are ways more healthier of doing those desserts but at Xmas who cares about healthy?! Isn't it? Sadly, I can't eat gluten, so I miss those Xmas desserts a lot!
I finished. This was just an okay read for me. I see the potential of the book, but it had a lot of problems. The fact that after the h had her first kiss an hour later she was (view spoiler) didn't make since. Though I did laugh when the H pet the ****cat scene. Classic cheesy lines!
I also spend most of the book wanting to smack the father and son. They were both stupid to keep that type of problem a secret. I did like the end with Henry and his allies.
Though most of the book is predictable, it still was a fast paced, fun read. I see why others liked it so much. I will definitely try the next book in the series
Oh Sandra! No gluten? I weep for you. If your family makes half of the desserts on that website, Christmas must be tough. I was drooling just reading them, for the exception of the Codfish. As an American, anything not turkey or ham is just odd.
With the modern sex talk, a slight open mined household, the book had a combination of contemporary & historical flavour.
@Lauren Yes!@Nilambari I am reading more and more reviews where this is the case. I can see this trend is here to stay. I guess I need to accept it. I think Sarah MacLean is a leader in that area and her latest book is almost a 4*.
Lauren In total agreement with your review. The father has not been written to have any redeeming qualities. I don't understand the sons loyalty to him. He has bankrupted the family for his HOBBY!!!!Nalambari I think you are right, I realize this is the direction HR are going at the moment. I have been following the reviews on Sarah MacLean's latest book and its almost a 4*. Its a blend of modern and historical.
Chapter 26 (view spoiler)
Merry Jewelhound wrote: "Lauren In total agreement with your review. The father has not been written to have any redeeming qualities. I don't understand the sons loyalty to him. He has bankrupted the family for his HOBBY!!..."The latest MacLean was horrible! It was only contemporary without even trying very hard to pull a blanket of historical accuracy. I think, to create instances for the couple to spend some time together or develop a tendre of sorts, more and more authors lean towards using modern day-like instances. It takes away from authenticity to be sure but makes the romance more believable otherwise we would have ended up with love at first sight or first fuck (excuse language), which we scoff at (at least I do). Hence I personally do not mind a slight (very slight) modern element.

How to Train Your Viscount by Courtney McCaskill
Synopsis:
The only one who can help her is the man who broke her heart.
Four years ago, Lady Caroline Astley took one look at Henry Greville, Viscount Thetford, and fell horribly in love, in that particular way you can only fall in love at the age of fifteen.
He didn’t just reject her.
He humiliated her.
But now, in a stroke of rotten luck, he’s the only one who can help her.
It turns out that the “paste” pendant she borrowed from her sister, Anne, was no fake. It’s actually an ancient Egyptian amulet, and now Anne wants to auction it off to save hundreds of widows and orphans. What Caro can’t bear to tell her sister is that the necklace was stolen from right around her neck.
Caro has a few clues, but she doesn’t know an amulet from an obelisk, and the trail has gone cold. Guess who grew up in a house stuffed with Egyptian artifacts? Caro may despise Henry, but she needs him if she’s going to track down the thieves. Which begs the question of which is worse: letting down the orphans or risking her heart all over again.
