I took a break from reading Gone With The Wind to listen to Isaac Steele and the Forever Man by Daniel RigbyThis is fun sci-fi book which is free on Audible Plus.
Daniel Rigby is a very good actor who has appeared in things like Black Mirror and is worth watching whenever he's in something
The book was enjoyable and if this becomes a series of books I'll probably keep reading them.
Now back to racism and slavery

I need to figure out when I'll read that. Although I didn't like The Trouble with Peace as much as A Little Hatred.
Still in the middle my expanse reread with Cibola Burn

Same, I also preferred A Little Hatred. Yet this is the one sequel I've been waiting for this year.
I should be rereading The Expanse too before the last book's publication, but alas, no time.
Finished Hornblower and am revisiting my all-time favorite fictional world, Tekumel, with The Man of Gold by M.A.R. Barker.

Yeah, I basically haven't read anything else since July.

I finished
Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin
Rating: 4 stars
Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
and I started reading:
Kindred by Octavia E. Butler
I just finished The Lost Patrol by Vaughn Heppner. If you enjoyed the previous books in the Lost Starship series, check out my review!

I finished The Wisdom of Crowds in 3 days . Loved the series. That period of history is my wheelhouse.
Finished Flamesong and started Foundation since the TV series drops ... is it Friday?(I'm just going to read the original Foundation trilogy, though -- none of the prequels or sequels or the other Asimov books that got retconned into the series.)
I am reading the Graceling Realm series by Kristin Cashore. I finished the first book and am halfway through the second. I really enjoyed the first book. The second one is a bit confusing but i do plan to finish it. This series is about individuals who have one eye that is one color and another that is a different color. This indicates that they have a "grace" that makes them very good at something but also causes them to be turned over to the King of the realm to be used as the King sees fit. The second book is about so called monsters in the same realm. These books are considered YA but I like them. Earlier this month I read Tooth and Claw and Hex on the Beach, which is made up of three paranormal short stories. Both of those books were just okay, in my opinion. I also finally finished the fifth Game of Thrones book, Dance of Dragons. Can't wait till the final one gets published, if that ever happens.
Love the Graceling series. I’d say the second is probably the weakest, but still enjoyable. She just recently published a fourth installment, so I re-read them all in anticipation, lol.
Just finished Jack Four which is so bad that Goodreads search cannot find it... By far the worst book in the Polity series with a one dimensional plot and twist that is obvious.
A video game run through with no interesting characters. Avoid.

& A Dream of Spring book 7 (final book of A Song of Ice & Fire). At least that's the plan.
Have you read the Dunc & Egg books?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
They were also published as Graphic Novels!

10 years 2 months since ADWD and counting. I don't hold out hopes of ever seeing Book 7.
If it stretches to 8, and he keeps up his glacial pace, then I don't think GRRM has that long left in him

When GRRM dies, I'm fairly sure they're going to find that the Winds of Winter manuscript contains 1200 pages of "All work and no play makes George a dull boy." Late Night with Conan had a good piece on GRRM's creative writing process in 2015. I wish I could post the link here but GoodReads doesn't allow that sort of thing anymore.

In the “write what you know” vein, Martin crosses the streams:
“Daenerys heard the roar of a dragon outside. Dismissing it, she bent down to snort more coke off Kit Harrington’s nude abdomen while signing the Standard Rich & Famous Contract.”
I’ve long since given up on the idea that GRRM is ever going to finish those books. I’m going to do the same thing I always do when conversations turn in this direction, which is to recommend the epic-length fanfic The North Remembershttps://archiveofourown.org/works/336407
Just as well written as GRRM, way more satisfying than the conclusion of the tv show, and most importantly, complete!
^ I loved GRRM for Armageddon Rag and Fevre Dream. The SOIAF books came out during a period I wasn't reading much so never looked at them then. Later on, after they'd become a hit, they looked like death stunting to me so I never read them. Given the hullabaloo, I'm glad of that.
Just finished a delightful novelette that is also nominated for Hugo this year: Burn, or the Episodic of of Sam Wells as a Super by AT Greenblatt. Also finished The Pill by Meg Elison (from Big Girl), another novelette nominee. It's a five star read.
I’m starting off spooky season by reading The Troop by Nick Cutter and listening to Lost Gods by Brom. I’m about a third of the way through The Troop and I’m not finding it to be very scary at all, though I do like the Stephen King-like writing style.Lost Gods however is a different story. I’m about 3 hours in and this is terrifying and haunting. I don’t know how I never read Brom until now but this is really something.
Just finished listening to the first volume of the Audible adaptation of The Sandman. This was my first exposure to The Sandman, despite being a Neil Gaiman fan since like forever! I wanted to love it more than I did. It's a very polished production, but jut didn't much grab me until the last few chapters / episodes, which I thought were better. Maybe I just needed to get a feel for the characters and the next volume will be more enjoyable. I'll probably get around to it sometime!
Just read The Call by Peadar Ó Guilín which I described in my revolution as “Relentlessly grim but wildly imaginative, with a page-turning pace, this is The Hunger Games meets Irish folklore meets the wildest shores of body horror.” It’s one of the most gruesome books I’ve ever read and not a great choice for reading during a hospital stay (I’m not sick, don’t worry, I just gave birth to a 9-and-a-half-pound baby) and in fact I picked up Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake as some alternative fun reading - but The Call, um, kept calling me back because I kept wanting to know what happened next.

I haven't read the 1st volume before.
I can't imagine The Sandman as an audiobook. It is such a visually rich story.
It would be like doing an audiobook version of "Saga" 🤔
It would be like doing an audiobook version of "Saga" 🤔
Or like an audiodrama version of Joe Hill's Locke & Key comic with Kate Mulgrew and others? https://www.audible.com/pd/Locke-Key-...
Locke and Key makes sense. It is a very gothic horror story that can be told audibly.
The other 2 are more visual in design. They can be done audibly, but I think they would lose a lot of the feel of the original graphic novels.
One day I will try out the Sandman audiobooks.

Thanks! I’m getting lots of reading done atm. No idea what new mums did in the dead of night when nursing newborns before the invention of the backlit kindle.
^ My wife and I switched off with our insomniac child until she was 18 months when she started sleeping better. I saw the entirety of the 1960s Batman TV show. And congrats! Parenthood is great. Except when it's tedious, but the rewards are still there.

Colin wrote: "Just finished listening to the first volume of the Audible adaptation of The Sandman. I think, to really get why a work is so admired, you almost have to experience it in its original medium vs an adaptation.
That's not to say adaptations are bad or even necessarily inferior, but they're *different*, unavoidably so.
You can get the comic digitally if you have a tablet via Hoopla if you have access.
Rick wrote: "Colin wrote: "Just finished listening to the first volume of the Audible adaptation of The Sandman. This was my first exposure to The Sandman, despite being a Neil Gaiman fan since ..."Hoopla is how I plan to read while I listen to Sandman. I just got the 2nd audio too.
