Stacey is still unsure of herself. She is questioning if Devon knows her and truly likes what she sees. Also, Stacey is learning what a valuable person she is, but she isn't completely on board yet. In her head she is thinking once Devon sees the real Stacey she will walk away. I don't believe Stacey could live with that and tries to distance herself from the pain.
So do I, Teresa. She’s still growing into her confidence. Isn’t it funny how plugged into her Kim is? She realized something was off but gave her space. That’s was a good moment.
I was glad she realized that life is to fleeting to let opportunities for happiness slip away.

I was really surprised at this revelation. The glimpses we have seen especially in the previous book where Devon was so supportive of Stacey I thought it was a given that everything was AOK between them and we were staring down a problem free HEA. Apparently not so. I agree, maybe it is Stacey's insecurities that are making her second guess their relationship.
Stacey obviously needed time to consider this decision and to understand what she would lose. I think she made the right choice for herself and for Devon.
