Kate S | 6459 comments In honor of Tim O'Brien's birthday, read a novel told in a non-linear style.

Please post any questions, comments or recommendations for task 20.4 in this thread.

I'll just add that one of the most non-linear novels I've read is Old Filth. I'm planning on #2 in the series this season which I'm hoping is told in the same style.

Taking your word for it, I will read this one. My library has it as an ebook.

This one, yes. I haven't read the others.

Kim (kmyers) | 438 comments Am I understanding non-linear correctly? The Seed Keeper begins each chapter with who the speaker is, usually Rosalie Iron Wing, and what year it takes place. Sometimes it's 2002, other 1979, etc. Would this indicate the book qualifies?

Yes, that story doesn't appear to be in told linearly, not in ascending order by time.

Marie (mariealex) | 1096 comments Hi ! I have just finished The House in the Cerulean Sea and i was wondering if it is fitting the task: while the book is mostly in chronogical order, some parts are starting in the present, and then it goes back to the events that took place a few days before. Is this sufficient ? Thanks :)

yes.

Mary | 1398 comments I am reading a time travel book The End of Eternity by Isaac Asimov and am trying to figure out if it is non linear for this task.

So far, the main character moves though his life in a linear fashion (from youth on) but he jumps from century to century observing the world and can change reality through his actions. In other words the background to his life is nonlinear in time.

Any help would be useful.

Maybe someone who has read it can weigh in. It doesn't sound non-linear from what you've said. (Also, as an aside and not being a sci-fi reader, I read in Astrophysics for People in a Hurry that you can't time travel backward, only forward.)

Thanks Elizabeth. I would appreciate any help people have. I did find this wiki list https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categor... but about half way through it still seems linear from the perspective of the main character. Maybe something will come up that makes it clearer. The are other places I can use upit sonot a big deal

I also read very little science fiction, so I really don’t know the “rules” of time travel either. This book is very good so far.
