The title was a string of letters and numbers which was the name/number on the boat they sailed on. As i remember it was a chapter book, probably around the length/complexity of a Roald Dahl. It was the first book I read independently and loved at probably age 8/9 which would have been late 80's. I read it from the bookshelf at school but i don't think it was a curriculum reader.
I think the group of animals ( i seem to think farm animals, i'm pretty sure there was a pig) were lost or abandoned and got on the boat as a rescue mission/fleeing something.
