Hour 5 - First Fave Writer Aug2021

Learning to read was so hard. I wanted to play outside in our big back yard under the large ash tree, in my mother's garden. Then along came a box of books, a set of Dr Seuss books. And my universe changed. Reading was still a challenge, but a fun one. Word plays. Nonsense words that made sense. Rhymes that satisfied. Wisdom that tasted sweet.

I so loved Dr Seuss that

I taught my brother and my son to read from Dr Seuss.
I have been known to irritate others with my Seuss-esque talk.
I refer to my mother's cat and my cat as Cat 1 & Cat 2.

Let us tell and hear stories of early favorite writers.

My early favorite writer was Laura Ingalls Wilder, my mom read and re-read the Little House on the Prairie series to me when I was quite young like and then I read the series by myself. but I really loved that it partly took place in my home state.

The first book I "read" and reread was The House that Jack Built. I think I was 4 when I "read" it to my uncle and he thought I was a brilliant child! Lol!! I just had a good memory from hearing the book so many times as it was my favorite!!

Mine was The Monster at the End of the book and Mickey Mouse and the Sorcerer's Stone

I loved the Sweet Pickles books as a kid. My favorite was probably Stork Spills the Beans. I also liked some of the Berenstein Bears books, and Paul Goble's lovely picture books of Native American myths and stories.

My mother got so sick of reading Dr Seuss to me that I think my obsession with On Beyond Zebra! caused me to teach myself how to read.

My first favorite book was "Where the Wild Things Are". My first favorite author though, where I actively looked for their books, was Roald Dahl. "James and the Giant Peach" was the first, then I realized a movie I loved was based on one of his books, and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" followed.

Alexandra, I am planning on reading Roald Dahl this Dewey's. I have two possibilities here:. The Witches - Challrlie and the Chocolate Factory. Looking forward

Possibly RL Stine. Once I learnt to read I devoured the Goosebumps series.
