Pamela Love | 1509 comments Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels often feature witches. I recommend starting with Wyrd Sisters: Wyrd Sisters

Heather L (wordtrix) | 74 comments Since you say genre doesn’t matter, there are numerous cozy mystery series that feature witches.

* Madelyn Alt — “Bewitching” series
* Bailey Cates — “Magical Bakery” series
* Joyce Lavene — “Retired Witches” series
* Heather Blake — “Wishcraft” and “Magic Potion” series
* Juliet Blackwell — “Witchcraft” series
* Shirley Damsgaard — “Ophelia and Abby” series
* Jennifer David Hesse — “Wiccan Wheel” series
* Ellery Adams — “Charmed Pie Shop” series
* Annette Blair — “Vintage Magic” series
* Melissa Bourbon — “Magical Dressmaking” series
* Rochelle Staab — “Mind for Murder” series
* Kari Lee Townsend — “Fortune Teller” series
* Wisteria Witches by Angela Pepper

If you like things a bit steamy, I would recommend:

* Annette Blair — “Accidental Witch” and “Triplet Witch” series.
* Vicki Lewis Thompson — “Hex” series

Other genres:
* A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
* The Witch's Daughter by Paula Brackston
* Bewitching by Jill Barnett
* Witches of East End by Melissa de la Cruz
* The Witches of Eastwick by John Updike
* Charmed: The War on Witches: Charmed Series #1 by Paul Ruditis
* The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy

Lynn (lynnbar) | 126 comments I agree with Pamela about Terry Pratchett's Discworld Witches... however, I'd recommend starting with Equal Rites instead. I've just 're-read' this and it's so enjoyable and explains all about 'Headology'.
Equal Rites (Discworld, #3; Witches, #1) by Terry Pratchett

Equal Rites is the first book about witches that he wrote. It introduces Granny Weatherwax and discusses the differences between female and male 'magic practioners'.

I also enjoyed Tara Lain's Aloysius Tales series, beginning with Spell Cat.
