SassafrasfromAmazon | 179 comments Hey people! I’m in a bit of a funk, coming off of some duds and DNF books. I am looking for an IR book that is not fluff, has some or a lot of angst, an Alpha (of the non-a**hole variety) and a great plot. Amnesia, cabin, mountain, rancher, military, vet, etc., OK. No surprise babies, please. Millionaire, billionaire, gozillionaire, are so pervasive, I guess I can hang with that. No MC’s, white supremacists, or super dark). Recommendations please. If this has been covered previously, please refer me to that thread. Thanks.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 124 comments A few that I've enjoyed this year, not all written by Black authors;

Fort Knox by Tiana Laveen my first by her for a long time.
Fruit (Fox Lake, #3) by Marina Vivancos * LOVED this.
Behind the Bars (Music Street, #1) by Brittainy C. Cherry * The romance was beautiful, but I did have issues with other aspects of it.
Rock the Curves A Rockstar Romance by Twyla Turner His Muse by Twyla Turner * same as above
Open House (Uptown, #2) by Ruby Lang The second in a trilogy the others are both Asian couples but this was my favourite because of the plot.

These are historicals
A Noble Excavation (The Bluestocking Scandals Book 7) by Ellie St. Clair A Regency set away from the meat market of London society and based on an actual Black woman geologist of the time.
Let It Shine by Alyssa Cole based around the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
The Songbook of Benny Lament by Amy Harmon * THIS was beautiful and my favourite out of all of them I listed here. Music, mafia and tons of secrets set in the 1960s. No on-page sex, but I didn't even realise until after I'd finished it.

TinaNoir | 1456 comments Some older favorites:

Kiss of Fire (St. James Family #2) by Lavender Parker Kiss of Fire - BWWM - he's an Irish, blue collar firefighter. She's a rich, ballerina. Class differences and age gap are the big internal conflicts.

The Question by Zena Wynn The Question - BWWM - A woman (the heroine) agrees to be a surrogate to her bff and her bff's husband b(the hero) because the wife can't carry a child to term. Things get complicated....

True Romance (True Romance #1) by Lashell Collins True Romance - BWWMN - He is a rocker who is finding fame a little later. She is a wildlife photographer. Slow burn.

Pas De Deux A Dance For Two by Lynn Turner Pas De Deux: A Dance For Two - She's a ballerina he is a choreographer putting on a Broadway show. Lots of backstage drama.

Hero (The Morgan Brothers, #1) by Lauren Rowe Hero - He's a firefighter first responder. She is a Physical Therapist who is a widow of a first responder. The conflict comes from first she is his PT and then she has some anxiety about getting involved with another first responder.

Lock&Load (PASS, #3) by Freya Barker Lock&Load - He's a computer geek/security expert she is a nurse. Romantic suspense.

Also enthusiastic second for The Songbook of Benny Lament by Amy Harmon The Songbook of Benny Lament

Do Your Reading | 22 comments These are just a few:

Dr. Strange Beard

Defying Gravity

Too Good to Be Wrong

Forbidden Desires : Historical IR. I'm hit or miss with this genre. But I was really impressed with the original concept of the work.

Exiled

The Entrepreneur's Nurse: A Sweet Opposites Attract Romance (BWWM) : Christian/clean IR

California Dreamer

The Worst Best Man

Unfinished Business; A Personal Matter; His Private Dancer

Pretend You're Mine: this was an atypical AMBW plus size billionaire romance.

Conversion

Outcast

The Alpha Promise

Earlier works (2016-2018) by Nia Arthurs are highly recommended. Clean IR genre.

Tiana Laveen came out with a few standalone IR contemporary books recently.

Theodora Taylor's AMBW triad trilogy (5 books in all) is about the chinese mafia. I personally loved the first 3 books about the mute asian don.

Jmelfi | 114 comments I can recommend some of my favorite IR books. (Some heroes are cops, some are alphas, there is conflict, mystery and fantasy ( a couple of books).
Cops:
The Color of Love, Between Friends, and Close Encounters by Sandra Kitt.
I'll Be Your Shelter by Giselle Carmichael
Crossing the Line by Bernice Layton
Ebony Eyes by Kei Swanson

Bussinessmen/women, lawyers, writers:
Back To Life by Wendy Coakley-Thompson
No Commitment Required by Serissa Glass
A Personal Matter by Karyn Langhorne
The Color Line by Lizette Grayson Carter
You're All I Need by Karen Owens-White
Waiting for Mr. Darcy by Chamen Canton
Allegro by Adora Bennett

Musicians:
Frost on My Window by Angela Weaver
Rock Star by Roslyn Hardy Holcomb
Playing For Keeps by Stephanie Salinas (Alpha male hates heroine,

All were published in Print. Some may be out of print or converted to ebooks. I highly recommend them all.

Skhan | 16 comments I would recommend “marriage of equals” by Elizabeth rolls and “duchess of Rochester” by karyn langhorne.

Lanie | 42 comments Not necessarily a new recommendation but when I get bored with current selections, I like to reread Theodora Taylor books. Her books have some pretty wild scenarios but there are some really good hidden gems in her 50 states series.
I’ve also found selections in Bwwm lacking this last year. So much so I’ve pretty much switched genres just to find something that didn’t involve triplets or billionaires or worse those poorly photoshopped covers with random black women slapped next to a ripped guy standing awkwardly where we’re supposed to believe they’re about to kiss even though they clearly aren’t even in the same room. I hope you find something good. I know I’ll be looking at these recommendations as well with my fingers crossed.

Fiona McGier | 128 comments For a Black heroine who discovers she's a witch when a lust-demon appears in her apartment with a spell book that only she can read, check out "Ink" by Ellen Mint. There are 3 more books starring these two--in the Coven of Desire series--the 3rd one isn't published yet, but I read an ARC. These books rock! The next book is Fang, then Claw. Her werewolf boyfriend is blond and gorgeous, but it takes time for him to be okay with sharing her with the lust demon who knows what she wants as soon as she thinks it. Action, monsters, and sex scenes that will melt your e-reader! Good stuff.

SassafrasfromAmazon | 179 comments Hello Everyone! I’m sorry it took me so long to respond. Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions. Some of the older books I’ve read when they were in print only. I’m thinking of revisiting them after these posts. Ciao til next time.
