That's another reason I pick his up - quick, easy reads and they fit challenges well :)
Back with a historical PI mystery:
Dead-Bang Fall by J. R. Sanders https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My review for
Finding Refuge in Bellbird Bay by Maggie Christensenhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I ended up not being able to do much reading yesterday, so not quite halfway yet. I was laid low by a migraine that hit about 2pm. Usually if I can feel one coming on, medication can help hold it at bay, or at least “soften” the effects, but this one hit out of the blue. And of course it was a half hour before all the little monsters in the building got home from school. The one above me kept hammering on my ceiling last night, which did NOT help. 😐
We’ll see what kind of progress I can make today.

I could have posted this, Teresa, except that I powered through one of his books not too long ago for my F2F book group. It was a good story, but not enough to make me voluntarily pick up another of his books.
I've been reading the Women's Murder Club series. Overall, they are okay, although a couple of them were good. The last one was so terrible I'm questioning whether I will read any more of them - and I get them from the library.

I hope the migraine didn't last too long Heather 🙃

Thanks, Brenda. Better today, though I was glad to have today off so I could sleep in a bit and take it easy. Slight headache/neck pain off and on, but time with a heat pack helped.

I finished Make Her Pay: A Detective Nessa Ainsley Novella
by Melinda Woodhall. My 4.05 rounded to 4 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Police procedural / crime thriller novella
Here is my 3.95 rounded to 4 stars review of The Last Grudge
by Max Seeck:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This international crime thriller / police procedural has a twisty mystery.
Finally finished Along Came a Spider. Fast-paced east reading, but not sure I would continue the series. Oh, and I misspoke earlier in the week. This was actually my second book by Patterson. I forgot that I read The President Is Missing a couple years ago. Actually liked that one better, haven’t read the sequel yet.
Enjoyed the thriller
Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Heather L wrote: "Finally finished Along Came a Spider. Fast-paced east reading, but not sure I would continue the series. Oh, and I misspoke earlier in the week. This was actually my second book by Pat..."Along Came a Spider is an early one of his. I find his later books much better...
I started
Naked in Death by J. D. Robb this morning...only about 12 pages in but should be a good one if what I have heard in the past is any indication.
I listened to China Rich Girlfriend and loved it. It is the second in a trilogy of books and I'm looking forward to the third book. These books are hilarious satires of ultrawealthy Asians and their perceived woes. This book had a different narrator than the first book and she was much better.
Currently reading Madly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman and The Winners by Fredrik Backman. I've been reading and haven't been around much but I'm trying to do better.
Read yesterday: The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett, a charming short book that had a lot of great lines regarding books, reading, and even writing.
“What she was finding also was how one book led to another, doors kept opening wherever she turned and the days weren’t long enough for the reading she wanted to do.”
“Books are not about passing the time. They’re about other lives. Other worlds. Far from wanting time to pass, one just wishes one had more of it.”
“The appeal in reading, she thought, lay in its indifference: there was something undeferring about literature. Books did not care who was reading them or whether one read them or not. All readers were equal…”

Along that line, Heather, you might want to look into I'd Rather Be Reading: The Delights and Dilemmas of the Reading Life, by Anne Bogel. I read it last year, and liked it so much, I bought a copy for my adult daughter, who is as addicted to books as I am. She said she read it in just a couple of days :)
Barb — I have that one and love it. I also have I'd Rather Be Reading: A Library of Art for Book Lovers by Guinevere de la Mare.
Tammy wrote: "Currently rereading my all time favorite The Pillars of the Earth

Here is my 4.5 rounded to 5 stars review of Her Final Breath
by Carolyn Arnold:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Overall, this novel was thought-provoking and engrossing with tension that almost felt alive.
I read the newest in the series Suppression and Suspicion
. Greatly enjoying. Love the discussion of Medieval food and culture. very good mystery. Set in 1376 England. I recommend reading this series in order. This book is number 15.
My review for The Family Upstairs
Such a great mystery/thriller! Definitely recommend!

Who Buries the Dead by C.S. Harris 4-StarsMacabe collections and slavery as possible motives for murder.
My Review
Kisscut by Karin Slaughter 3-StarsI hate pedophile books more than serial killer books,
My Review
Curled Up with an Earl by Amy Rose Bennett 4-StarsA touch of mystery, mixed with passion and intrigue.
My Review
My review for
The One and Only Dolly Jamieson by Lisa Irelandhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Read Friday: Dirty Beasts by Roald Dahl
Started: The Thirty-Nine Steps by John Buchan (Classic group read)
Started: The Thirty-Nine Steps by John Buchan (Classic group read)
Here is my 3.09 rounded to 3 stars review of Bright and Deadly Things
by Lexie Elliott: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Great characterization and atmosphere were the highlights for me in this mystery. However, the pacing felt somewhat uneven with some slow spots and the ending wrapped up a little too neatly and quickly. Additionally, the suspense didn't leave me with the sense of urgency that I wanted to feel.

yes, last month I read the prequel so decided to reread the series again
Needed a couple of issues at the last few chapters of The Winners.Returned to a series that I started years ago and discovered the author had a ten year gap between #4 and #5 (writing other books) but I then realized I never read #4 so of course I purchased it so I could read #5 which I already owned.
by
Wreckers' Key by Christine Kling
I am reading A Certain Darkness
by Anna Lee Huber. Book 6 in the Verity Kent series. Set in 1920 England ( I will be able to use for early 20th century for our settings contest). I like this series shows effect on people after WWI. The characters grow a little with each book. I would recommend reading this series in order.
Starting the week with a little middle grade fantasy
Bastille Vs. the Evil Librarians by Brandon Sanderson and Janci Patterson https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Here is my 4.88 rounded to 5 stars review of Encore in Death
by J.D. Robb: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This near-future police procedural was a twisty tale with great characterization that kept me turning the pages.
I finished The Blackbriar Genesis
by Simon Gervais. My 4.02 rounded to 4 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Simon Gervais has a way of starting his novels with a shocking and powerful opening scene. Action, suspense, treachery, and intrigue keep this novel moving at a terrific pace. It has aspects of espionage, political, and military thrillers. This series is within Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne universe.
I listened to Mythology for the 52 book club challenge. It has been in my Audible library for a long time and the challenge gave the nudge I needed to listen to it.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
I finished The Draka & The Giant
by Liane Zane. Here is my 3.98 rounded to 4 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The author brings action, attraction, and suspense to a new paranormal romantic suspense urban fantasy thriller.
