Y/A fantasy. a man (potentially a siren?) passes a note to his enemy that says "help me" in first pages of the book. Had a mob boss / beauty and the beast vibe to the story.

I just read the first couple of pages of this book on Amazon a few months back. It was a fairytale / Romeo Juliet / Beauty and the Beast / mob boss fantasy with a dark edge.
The opening scene is at a party. The protagonist is there and in some danger because the party is controlled by the enemy family or political party or mob people. A man belonging to the enemy family passes him a note that says "help me." The man is some sort of siren--I didn't read enough to find out what--but he would enchant people and tell them what to do. He had a nefarious mother or uncle or something who was using him to kill/harass people or make them make certain decisions. The siren man thought the enemy guy at the party had enough power to help break him free and in doing so destabilize the power of his mother/uncle figure. Didn't find out what happened!
