Definitely! (And if not this one, perhaps his Blackwater books or The Amulet or Gilded Needles?)He is a terrific writer-in my top of 5 for sure.

I just started Elementals and really looking forward to getting into the novel. I liked The Amulet and the Blackwater series, so I think that this will be just as fun to get into.
For fans of McDowell, Suntup Press will be announcing their next book on August 12th. All the clues point to it being Blackwater. If so, it's going to be a spectacular edition.

Blackwater is my favorite from McDowell, but I love them all. And I do think I've read them all, except, perhaps, for ones written under the name Axl something or other, I think it was.
Really looking forward to reading this one, and reading it with this amazing HA group :)

It's a terrific story, hope you read it Frances.

I'm listening to the audiobook, is anyone else?I'm at the point where they've reached Beldame and does anyone (view spoiler)
I have this one on my Kindle ready to go! May join you with it this month, but after I’ve finished the Grady Hendrix one and the new Stephen King!

We're on the same schedule, but this would be a re-read for me, Elementals is a gem. I'm legit jealous of first time readers.

Some of the dialogue here just cracks me up, especially conversations between Big Barbara, India and Luker. I adore Luker.

Well this makes me very excited to give it a go then! I’m currently reading both the Hendrix and the King because I couldn’t not start reading the new King straight away once it was in my hands lol
Lena wrote: "“There’s no point in advertising a circus where everybody hates the clown.”I have begun listening!"
McDowell writes southern families like no other.

I'm so tempted to start it right away, I've never done that with a new release before, reading it the day it comes out and def not with King, but I might this time :)

That’s how you end a chapter, with a gut dropper!"
McDowell was a master of that.
"Savage mothers eat their children up!"

I'm sad. I just passed the 1 hour left on the audio mark. I even delayed listening earlier today because I just don't want it to end. Even though this is my third time, I just love this story, I don't think I'll ever tire of it.

I’ve finished chapter 12, the man takes my breath away with his bone deep knowledge of the South:“Worry, clever thought, conversation all were crushed by the weight of the atmosphere.”
“He did nothing, he thought of nothing; he didn’t even bother to feel guilty that he was not working.”
If you had ever opened your front door at 6AM to find that it’s already 80° at 90% humidity, you would understand.
I think that atmosphere, that suffocating humidity, is so well written and mentioned so often, it's actually one of the characters.
