Dannii Elle (danniiellereads) | 9914 comments Hey everyone :) I've just had a little look and all the other teams have Google Docs spreadsheets to help organise their letters. Do we want to follow suit? And, if so, is anyone tech savvy enough to create one, as I suck! Lol.

Also, our first board is:
Thorn by Intisar Khanani

A nice short one :) I have a really short BR set up for the 1st that I can get read on the first day and it can count for either A, N, S, H, A, R, O,

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi guys!!! i'm so excited to be in this team!! Go team! I am soooo ready... i just got back to reading since the 17th and i am enjoying it again... i've read 9 books so far... so i am hoping to keep this rhythm and read about 20 books this month...

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

oh yea... checking in lol :)

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll be reading The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay on the 1st since i don't have BR's planned for then... I will take the letter K when done.

message 20: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments I'll probably be starting with Cast in Chaos (Chronicles of Elantra, #6) by Michelle Sagara . I'll be reading as much of that series as I can this month so lots of the same letters.

I also have some standalones and first in a series I'll be trying to get to. She Who Became the Sun (The Radiant Emperor, #1) by Shelley Parker-Chan Red Wolf by Rachel Vincent A Dragonbird in the Fern by Laura Rueckert

Jamie | 12272 comments Dannii wrote: "Hey everyone :) I've just had a little look and all the other teams have Google Docs spreadsheets to help organise their letters. Do we want to follow suit? And, if so, is anyone tech savvy enough ..."

I don't think it is as necessary for claiming spots and such like in previous years since we can now use any letter in the title/series/author name, vs when you could only use the first letter. That is going to keep this really open.

But if we want to have one for easier tracking between scoring, it might not be bad for finished books (either posted or will be posted within a day or something). Might not be bad to easily see what letters we need.

Also, since it is no longer serious, fun, etc reading levels and we are mixed together, if people claim a spot, it could either hold us off or leave someone with a lot of reshuffling work since we will want to post asap for higher spin chances.

But I will go with whatever the team decides. No big deal either way to me.

Note *I just asked on the main thread about if we can use titles in any language to chose our letters from. Normally we can but this didn't say.*

Yeah, totally agree with this actually. I'm sure we can also claim letters from translators, narrators, and illustrators so lots of options for most books read :)

We can always all just post here if we are unsure about which letter would be best to claim too.

I like the idea of a spreadsheet but it definitely takes away from reading time lol!

I'm looking forward to this challenge beginning :)

message 28: by Dannii (new)

Dannii Elle (danniiellereads) | 9914 comments Hey Jamie. I think we can use different language editions as I found this in the rules :)

* You may use different editions with different titles, but they must be made up of English letters (accents are okay).
* If your book has multiple authors, you may choose a letter from any of them, including narrators, editors, illustrators, translators etc.
* When punctuation occurs in a title or author's name, you may use the words on either side of it, if that is how it appears on Goodreads.

Lots of options for us all :)

Jamie | 12272 comments Here is a basic SS for tracking letters, finished books. I added a tab to moved boards as we complete them so newest is always at the top. Also a tab for books ready to post, waiting for a new board etc. We can post our info and post for each other if we need to this way ( especially great if someone cant get on regularly.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

We can change it if unliked or someone else can make something different. I only finished the first 2 boards for now.

Dannii Elle (danniiellereads) | 9914 comments My first book of the month will be Lore, but I'm thinking of saving it for the second book title to fulfil as I can use the Z there and that might be difficult for us to find otherwise.

message 41: by Jamie (last edited Jul 30, 2021 01:41PM) (new)

Jamie | 12272 comments Just a heads up for all, if we are pre-claiming spots a lot on the SS, and if current spots are full, I will just be placing my books on the other tab more often, with link info so when others have time to figure out what has vs hasn't been posted and can shuffle things around they can just post books for me please. I will be very limited on when I can post with my new job (posting from my phone is too hard for links and same with shuffling an SS). My time is going to be very limited for reading time as is and I don't want to stress or spend my time figuring out what can be moved where for pre-held spots.

Also, we should keep in mind some people might take longer reading and if we are claiming spots right away this is going to mean we need people who can do all that shuffling on a daily basis or completing bard titles can take a long while. We also have fast readers (Mummy, Dannii) who can zip through books fast and keeping slots free for them to add them in quick vs holding a spot for several days or longer is a good courtesy idea. Also keeping in mind that some may not be chatty about reading progress and update the SS.

I think I'll be starting with Open Minds (Mindjack #1) by Susan Kaye Quinn as my first book.

message 42: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 12272 comments ^clarification, I will be on daily but will not have access to pc daily for SS shuffling and review posting. So you'll see a lot of chatting from the phone app.

What Z? It has an x . I didn't see one in alternate title either.

Phahaha. I clearly can't read. Oops! No idea why I confused an X for a Z. I think I just got excited that a rarer letter was featured.

I've only added the books I think I'll finish on the first day of the challenge onto the SS. I'm on pretty much everyday too so I can shift things about if that changes.

I'm also happy for people to switch my books about if they find a book that only fits for a few certain letters but the book I've put in a certain spot can fit for more.

You also read fast lol. Not worried about you claiming a few spots. Meant it more for others who might not read so fast but claim several spots or even claim 1-2 spots but take 5+ days a book. I don't want to see people like you and Mummy having to constantly move things if people claim several spots but aren't either fast readers or gonna have a good chunk of reading time. The other part was just an fyi since my pc time is gonna be crazy limited for a while. Maybe 10-15 minutes a day on weekdays, so that doesn't always give me time to make BR comments, review and then shuffle SS, hence why mine might just be on the other tab. And I'll comment here if I do that so maybe someone with more time can wiggle things around and get it posted. If not I just wait. :)
