Our August pick will be: The Ruthless Lady's Guide to Wizardry by C.M. Waggoner.

Let us know what you think of the pick

Trike | 11190 comments I read this last month and thought it was fine. The standout aspect for me was the made-up words the main character created in an attempt to sound smart.

Ruth | 1778 comments Only £2.49 in the UK kindle store atm - not bad!
Don’t really know anything about it but I’ll give it a try.

Jan | 774 comments Yeah, the kindle version is only EUR 2.99 in Germany as well. Which is good, since there is no audible version.

Serendi | 848 comments There's an Audible version in the US. I just listened to the sample - sounded pretty good.

*stretches hands* Sure! It's well outside my usual wheelhouse, but that's why I come to Sword & Laser. I've enjoyed many books selected here that I would likely not have found on my own. This one looks promising.

It's also available from LA County Library on a three week wait. They usually overestimate by one week. I expect to be reading this in early August.

There's even a hard copy available in my town library if I want to go that route. I don't, but there are many ways for people to access this book. Including, ya know, paying. $12 at Amazon, about the price of two Starbucks coffees.

Chris K. | 414 comments I read the first chapter last night. So far, so good!

Francis x | 142 comments Is the book a Dark Academia novels draw from the genres of satire and tragedy genre.

I don’t think so...?
So far it seems like a humorous fantasy adventure story.

LA County Library also has the audio book on Hoopla with no wait.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments I tried this one when it was in our final four for March, but didn't end up finishing it. Not a judgment on the book itself, more of a personal taste thing. It wouldn't be a book I'd typically pick up.

You are right it is a humorous working class wizardry fantasy genres which is on a borderline of satire and tragedy.

John (Taloni) Taloni (johntaloni) | 5193 comments I'm about halfway through. Fast read. Won't get into specifics until the month changes tho.

One day after I tagged it in LA County library it came in. That means a whole lot of people decided to wait on their hold and it went to me. Ah, libraries, how unpredictable you can be...

Thanks for mentioning Hoopla - I always forget to check there.

The cover artist is Jess Cruickshank. Here is her instagram post about the cover...

Those are all things which are important to the story. To detail them would spoil the story.

Stephen Richter (stephenofskytrain) | 1638 comments I turned in all my saved coins for the Amazon gift card that Coinstar offers. $54 dollars in the jar so I just brought the kindle edition thanks to my not wanting coins in my pocket at the start of the day.

$54 in coins sounds like a drowning hazard.
