Rachel Morgan-Trimmer | 5 comments Some children lose/drop a toy and chase it though a city. The toy is illustrated on every page and the illustrations are busy so you have to hunt for it. It might have been a toy train and the city may have been Amsterdam (or simliar, not a modern city).

I read this book in the late 70s or early 80s.

It's a real dog, but there are two kids and it takes place in a Swedish city.

Rachel Morgan-Trimmer | 5 comments Thanks, I've looked it up and it's not the one. The scenes are of busy city streets and the lost item is definitely some kind of toy, I think with wheels which is why it's rolling away.

Rainbowheart | 28711 comments Clown wasn't pubbed until '95, though.

Rachel, when you say early '80s, would 1984 be the latest you could have read it?

No, it wasn't "Clown".

Yes, 1984 at the latest sounds about right.

Rachel Morgan-Trimmer | 5 comments I think you might be right! The thimble is bringing back a vague memory. I have ordered it and will post here if it's the right book. Thank you so much!

Rachel Morgan-Trimmer | 5 comments You were right! The toy was a horse on wheels, and I was right about it being Amsterdam. Published in 1978.

Backstory: I didn't have a very good relationship with my mum growing up, but this was one thing we shared that I enjoyed. She let me take the time to look at the pictures, and it's one of the things I have nice memories of. I've been looking for this book for several years, but it was only after my mum died in May this year that I restarted my search.

Now I have a copy of this book and can read it to my kids.

Thank you so much Ayshe and everyone else who commented. This means a great deal to me and I'm very grateful.
