Dimitris Giannakis | 1 comments Dear all,

I am currently writing a paper on blockchain, the technology that enabled bitcoin and the crypto-craze. I am looking to reference a particular novel or short story I learned about as much as 5 years ago, thought the work should be much older, maybe part of the sci-fi scene of the 70s and 80s.

The premise of the story is that a spaceship or space-station is programmed (AI?) to shut down life support if the inhabitants do not meet the productivity standards of the shareholders back on Earth.
Sadly, this is as much as I remember about it.

If any of you would be as kind as to reply if this description rings a bell or reminds you of any similar literary works, please. It will be greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,
Dimitris

Andy | 2124 comments That does ring a bell. Probably not your book, but John Shirley's Eclipse series Eclipse features an oppressed class of technical workers on a space station (though no AI as I recall).

Andy | 2124 comments This article about labor issues in SF mentions Allen Steele's Orbital Decay which might be closer http://www.sfreviews.net/orbitaldecay...
