Dennis, where are you in the book? No comments from you in any of the other, later discussion threads?

Still at the end of part one. My weekend was called off because of an important appointment yesterday, which pretty much ruined Shark Week for me. But I decided to just pretend that Shark Week is still on. :) Will finish another book today and then continue with this one.
Dennis wrote: "Still at the end of part one. My weekend was called off because of an important appointment yesterday, which pretty much ruined Shark Week for me. But I decided to just pretend that Shark Week is s..."Sorry to hear but Shark Week can be as long as you want it to be. *hugs*
I'm proud to say that I haven't seen ANY Sharknado movie. What I saw in an explanation in one of this year's Shark Week episodes was enough. Urgh.
And just like that, you never ever get to criticize ANY movie I'm watching (or me for watching it) ever again. *lol*
And I think the meteorological effect of the sharknado produces enough moisture for the sharks to breath in the funnel cloud.
Dennis wrote: "But how are they supposed to eat people then?"They don't because there are none up there yet. The sharks must still wait for Branson, Bezos and Musk to bring them their food.
Cathy wrote: "Reached the Scottish bit. Not so fussed with the amount, but it‘s pretty inconsistent. Whole sentences in the Queen‘s English and then a few Scottish things thrown in. Nobody talks that way. This ..."
I found it distracting throughout. To your point, Cathy, it basically became to = tae, know = ken, and everything else is normal. Except at least one sentence I found him saying "to," not "tae."
Dennis wrote: "Yes, that's what I mean. 😁"This may sound odd, but I remember feeling like the characters really had become a family by Sharknado 3. Formerly estranged or divorced or something, they'd come back together and literally fought through multiple sharknadoes to save and protect each other.
I LOVED THE MOVIE! :D This is actually one series that knows how ridiculous it is. Or that's the impression I got from the third one. I haven't seen any of the others. Honestly, it was a lot of fun.
Cathy wrote: "I just thought if we wanted to start a group for reading these kinds of horror books, aka b-type creature features. But TBH, I have no ambitions to be a group moderator..."Cathy, I have thought about this off & on as well: a group for creature features, bio-horror, eco-thrillers, SyFy movie-style, animals-attack books.
I felt the best thing about Nightstalkers, to be frank, was our discussion group, so this may be worth considering further.
I'd want it to be sustainable, so maybe if we start off small, like four books a year. Possibly seasonal. For example:
• Summer--sea monster/shark book (obvious)
• Fall--horror, bats (vampires, etc.)
• Winter--dinosaurs, kaiju, etc. (Not really winter related, but I don't know where else to put this category. There are some wooly mammoth books or Sasquatch stuff if we wanted to go for a snow beast angle.)
• Spring--personally, I read a dragon book every April.
If there's a new release we could try to do a group read as it comes out.
We could have other discussion threads too within the group but I'm thinking that if this is something we want to move forward with, the group reads should be the centerpiece.
Other thoughts/approaches/concerns, Cathy, Trish, Dennis?
Russ wrote: "I felt the best thing about Nightstalkers, to be frank, was our discussion group, so this may be worth considering further."In 99% of cases, that's also the best thing about watching b-movies (be it horror or creature features): making fun of them with others. :)
Russ wrote: "Winter--dinosaurs, kaiju, etc. (Not really winter related, but I don't know where else to put this category. There are some wooly mammoth books or Sasquatch stuff if we wanted to go for a snow beast angle.)"Greig Beck has The Siberian Incident for example. ;)

Oh, you old charmer, you're just trying to suck up to me! (This only makes sense for people who know that 1) my birthday is in April and 2) that I LOVE dragons. *lol*)
Russ wrote: "Cathy wrote: "I just thought if we wanted to start a group for reading these kinds of horror books, aka b-type creature features. But TBH, I have no ambitions to be a group moderator..."I‘m game for a creature-feature group.
I struggle a bit with actually participating in buddy reads that I have agreed to. So I'm not sure if four additional buddy reads is the best of ideas for me. However, I do read shark books in the summer anyway and in October I read other horror. So, yeah, I'm gonna join you guys. Just not sure if I will read all four books
We can keep it low key and continue the way we just did, if you prefer… or we do not need to stick to a schedule of a book each season. We could do it spontaneously… saying that, aren‘t you always reading some Halloween/Spooktober thing as well, where you don‘t have a buddy reading group either?
Yes, I usually do some Spooktober reading. Often some creature features. For this year, though, I have actually scheduled Patrick Süßkind's Das Parfum: Die Geschichte eines Mörders. Wanted to read that one again for years.

Yes, Beck's stuff would be perfect.
Charmer? (brushes own shoulder smugly.) But old? OLD? (sighs)
Have you read His Majesty's Dragon? By next spring I'll be ready to read book #2 in that series.
Cathy wrote: "We can keep it low key and continue the way we just did, if you prefer… or we do not need to stick to a schedule of a book each season. Or maybe what I'm hearing is that we could create a group mainly focused on our annual Shark Week read. But members could use the group to buddy up on additional books on occasion.
Not sure which would be better.
(Btw, I might read Crabs' Moon later in August.)
Russ wrote: "Have you read His Majesty's Dragon? By next spring I'll be ready to read book #2 in that series."Nope, I've seen it around a few times but was never sure about that blurp and then came other books that swept me up and ... so many books, so little time!
