Nightstalkers

Buddy Read, Part One, Prologue-Chap. 11 (with Spoilers)
Thanks for the direct link! I thought about reading Vostok, but never did. That‘s something we can read together, if we ever want to. I just thought if we wanted to start a group for reading these kinds of horror books, aka b-type creature features. But TBH, I have no ambitions to be a group moderator. I spend too much time online instead of reading as it is.
Ok, I just bought Nightstalkers. I am also in the first chapter of my current buddy read. I guess if you guys don‘t want to wait, I could alternate between both books. I am not a superfast reader and I think you are both not that fast either, right? That way I could probably just keep up…
Started it about half an hour ago. The lord of the overly detailed infodump, as Cathy would call him, is on form early on.
At least we won‘t need to worry about not having read Vostok. He will tell us in minute detail what we need to know… 😂 🦈
I haven‘t gotten to the Scottish accent yet. However, I read the first chapter last night. Did he just copy and paste that complete chapter with the kayak tourists and the pod of orca from the previous book?
Didn't notice a Scottish accent yet either. As for the kayak chapter, I don't remember that. So it was in the previous book?
Reached the Scottish bit. Not so fussed with the amount, but it‘s pretty inconsistent. Whole sentences in the Queen‘s English and then a few Scottish things thrown in. Nobody talks that way. This should be the MC from The Loch, right? And Vostok….
Suppose so. I'm certainly not going to read that one if it means I have to deal with that accent all the time. Lol.
Chapter 6Oh dear. Of course Alten will turn this porn-quality one-night stand into a teenage love affair. Fremdschämen. 🙈
Ok, I have an idea what that could mean. But I haven‘t read that chapter yet. I just finished chapter 5. It‘s so mean to finish a chapter on a cliffhanger like that and then to move on to the other plotline. *sigh*
Finished Part One.Is it just me or are these books getting dumber? So far the action couldn't quite make up for that yet.
Hi guys. Or ahoy? Well, I started this morning and raced through it, being halfway done already. No worries, no spoilers form later bits here. But suffice it to say that not only is the „Scottish“ accent in the audiobook ridiculous, the info dumps about earlier books was … simultaneously convenient and annoying. Also, shouldn‘t it worry him how accurately he can summon entire books like that? *lol*Glad to see the author never graduated from his usual sexist characterization of any females. Bwahahahahahaha! I hate them all or am annoyed out of my mind and want BLOOD AND GORE! :D

Yep, sadly, I‘m feeling exactly the same way.
Russ, I just saw that you said "please summarize if you are the first to post". Okay. So, David and his friend doing stupid stuff, the Prince and his men hunting ancient aquatic reptiles for their aquarium, some chick fucking David for no good reason, Jonas and Mac doing stupid stuff they are too old for, the megs making babies in open water, some people get eaten. Sounds about right?
Dennis wrote: "Hi Trish, by the way. :)"Hi. *chuckles*
By the way, the summary applies to the next part too. Bwahahahahaha!
By the way, because of you, I discovered the other shark books by the author who wrote Shark Beach. Probably won't get to read that one this year (again *sighs*) but maybe I'll just read all three during next year's Shark Week. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!Anyone wanna join? ;P
Nope, I made a note of it - literally. In my favourite notebook. Something to look forward to the next 365 days.
Cathy wrote: "It sounded very familiar."It reminded me a little of Night of the Crabs and The Rats. Little vignettes of random characters introduced to us promptly getting torn to pieces...

Are you controlling my webcam?
Ok, I just finished Part 1. The way Alten writes the female characters is just atrocious. Again. And there was more recycling of previous books. I guess he is all out of ideas.
Pretty much. Aren't these books part of some kind of program that is supposed to get kids into reading?
Really? Oh boy. Well, better to read something than nothing. It would be nice though if the program had books with more positive role models.
I just checked. It's for young adults."Originated by high school teachers who began using Meg (rated #1 book for reluctant readers) to motivate their students to read, the program was organized by the book’s author, educator Steve Alten, as a way to get young adults excited about reading.
While young children receive an abundance of encouragement to read during their preschool to grade-5 years, such as the successful Reading is Fundamental program, once a student reaches middle and high school, reading is replaced by television, video games and social media.
Enter Adopt-An-Author. Since 1999, we’ve become the most popular and successful tool for teachers to excite secondary school students to read. We’ve been endorsed by Reading Is Fundamental, Barnes & Noble, TAYSHA, the School District of the City of Philadelphia, Senator Bill Morrow (CA) and Temple University’s Hall of Fame Basketball Coach and Educator John Chaney, along with the more than 10,000 teachers representing over 80,000 students per year. As you can see from our student, teacher, and parent testimonials, our success rate is phenomenal…and we’ve only just begun. Best of all, the program is FREE, paid for by our authors and sponsors."
Such programs are great. Especially because required reading at school mostly takes the fun out of reading and makes it a chore.
Sorry but the phrase "better to read something than nothing" does NOT always apply. Just look at the female characters and what that might teach children / young adults! URGH!The program itself sounds very cool though.
Trish wrote: "Just look at the female characters and what that might teach children / young adults! URGH! ..."I agree. Makes me wonder about Alten‘s personal life.

Conveniently, this book is already in four parts which makes it easy to divvy up the discussion. This thread is focused on Part One, "The Sisters."
If the first to post, please summarize the chapters to guide the discussion. (And I think one of you read Vostok, so if there's anything relevant for us to know from that crossover, please share as well.) Thanks!
