I read this somewhere between 2004-2011. It's about a young girl, maybe around 12 years, who grieves a significant person's death (probably her mother) by biking across the U.S. with the jar of their ashes in the bike basket in front.
I think the time setting was modern, realistic fiction.
I don't remember the cover, might have just been an image (real or cartoon) of a bike with a front basket on an empty asphalt road.
