KINGS OF DELUSION by E.J. Findorff

Amazon Average: 11 reviews 4.8 stars
Goodreads Average: 14 reviews 4.43 stars

Imagine a serial killer loose in a city with no law.

In the days before, during, and after the flooding of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans there was a serial killer on the loose and looking for a certain female that got away.

Paramedic Evan Pelicano's true accounts of the storm are weaved into this fictional tale of survival while saddled with the sixteen year old daughter of his slain friend Officer Jeremy Scarlet.

At first, the paramedics and police officers navigate the floodwater trying to save residents, but then Evan finds he needs to save himself as well as protect his friend's daughter from the killer among them, all the while determined to reunite with his girlfriend, the Chief Deputy Coroner of New Orleans.

Review excerpts:

"In this brilliantly crafted historical thriller, a killer storm and sadistic serial killer converge to provide a nail biting page turner that will take you on one hell of a wild ride."

"This book is nothing short of intense."

"This is an exciting fiction thriller, set in real life, real time events. The book has an important sub-text that explores the collapse of social norms in a population under extremes of stress. The backdrop to the plot is the catastrophic environmental disaster inflicted on the City of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina."

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) I would like to nominate my fantasy novel, Alloria

4.8 stars on Amazon; 4.83 on Goodreads

 photo AlloriBanner_zps3c763dd6.jpg

On her tenth Birthday Alloria discovers her true identity is a mystery.

Her adoptive parents return to her an amulet that opens a mysterious labyrinth in the cellar where they found her, bare-footed and clutching a rag doll.

Seven years on, Alloria enters that labyrinth in search of answers: a quest that flings her into an adventure brimming with danger, pain, love, magic, and brutal honesty.

Here’s a taste of what other readers thought of the book:

“Alloria is the kind of fantasy book that I love, there's magic, intrigue and secret connections bonding certain people together, all woven to make a wonderful story which is light hearted in feel yet gripping.”

“I could probably sit here and describe every emotion I felt while reading this, but unfortunately I don’t think Goodreads will allow that many words.”

“I fell hook line and sinker under Alloria's spell and already I miss her from my life. I can't put it simply enough I love this little girl.”

“Alloria is a tale of a young wizard lost at birth, complete with guardians, labyrinths, magic amulets, Dark Wizards, prophecies and much more… I simply fell in love with these characters and this story – it’s made my favorites list!”

Charles Vrooman (greenpower) | 73 comments The True Virus Thriller Novel by Charles Vrooman
The True Virus: Thriller Novel

I'd like to nominate my biotech thriller, THE TRUE VIRUS, for February's EBM BOTM.

Ebola, computer hacking and the Gaza/Israeli war are all included in the action filled thriller – “The True Virus”.

Synopsis:
This story takes place during the December 2008 to January 2009 Gaza/Israeli war. It starts out with a hacking incident involving the main CIA computer. After this breach in security, John Brookfield a CIA computer specialist travels to Israel to work with Sarah Stein the Co-developer of DNA computer technology to find out if the DNA component of the CIA system has been compromised. John is shocked when the cell phone of a fellow CIA agent in Israel is hit by a bullet and explodes in his hand. Soon after, an epidemic breaks out and the agent dies. With Sarah's help, John discovers that a Hamas bioterrorist is the hacker who programmed the CIA's system to produce the real live virus that caused the epidemic. The story takes a dramatic turn when Hamas uses this same virus, which the World Health Organization has now identified as Ebola, to infect John.

Review comments:
“I couldn't help but think this is the kind of plot you might see on a TV show like 24.”
- George Esler, thriller novel writer
“The plot is well-developed and the story is action-packed. A page turner from start to finish, the suspense and mystery that carries on throughout the book is engaging and has a lot of twist and surprises.”

B.M.B. Johnson | 17 comments I am nominating my book, Melody Jackson and the House on Lafayette Street.

see review by Laura Hartman

Johnson's Melody Jackson novel is YA Sci Fi gold. Snappy dialog and a solid storyline make this book a winner.

Melody and her unlikely friend/accomplice in this adventure are thrust together by meddling mothers. Most, if not all teens and tweens can relate to meddling parents who mean well but totally miss the mark. Flutter's mother and Melody's mom were connected via a community college class, and when Flutter's parents had to go out of town for the weekend Melody's mom saw a perfect (in her eyes) opportunity for Melody to spend less time alone and maybe have a friend.

Strange things began to happen on the way home from the art class the girls shared. Given the task of fundraising, Flutter was all in. Melody could care less about the whole thing until Flutter approaches the house next to the Jackson's where the creepy old man lives. This begins a chain of events that cannot be contained.

The Jackson family is odd. Melody's mom puts on a happy face, hiding secrets and her dad is paranoid and at times a bit disconnected from reality. All of this hinges on something in their past that Melody doesn't know about, but soon will.
Strangers begin to mill about the neighborhood, cats are missing and most disturbing, Melody's dad becomes zombie-like and begins on a mission known only to him. Out of fear and curiosity combined with the strong pull of love and family loyalty, Melody, her mom and Flutter are in for the duration with him.

The girls were vastly different, but the tension between them drove the story well. With all of the supernatural happenings and fear of the unknown the girls learn to work together and yet still don't like each other very much. I don't see them willingly hanging out at the mall together after this ordeal is over. This is much more likely than these two girls becoming best friends.

In addition to the meddling mothers, there are everyday events that occur during the craziness of the unknown that are relevant and allow the reader to relate to the characters, bringing them to life. Personally, I loved the off brand toys that line Melody's pristine room.
This was a fun read. I'm looking forward to more of Johnson's books

 photo voice_zps59d89259.jpg
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Have you ever fallen in love with a voice, more specifically, a voice on the radio? I have.

Every night I listen, and every night I think about calling in, but I never do. I’m terrified. What would I say? Regardless, I have to think of something soon because the voice is engaged to be married and my time is quickly running out.
Do you see my dilemma? Even if I was brave enough to call in and profess my feelings, which I am not, it wouldn’t do me much good. The voice that I’m in love with is in love with someone else. I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that there is yet another obstacle in my way—the voice lives over fourteen-hundred miles away. Seriously…life is so ironically cruel sometimes.
I have one thing in my favor. Said voice is not married yet. That gives me a chance, as infinitesimal as it might be.
One day soon I will get the courage to call in and talk to the voice I love, but until then, my name is Ryan James, and I am irrevocably in love with a voice on the radio.
This is my story…

A.M. Dunnewin (amdunnewin) The Benighted
I'd like to nominate my book, The Benighted.

Synopsis:
The King was dead. His body was found slain in his room, only months after his son had been brutally murdered. Skylar Mandolyn, his daughter, has now become the last heir to the throne. But instead of becoming Queen, she was imprisoned for helping in the escape of Sir Harlin Brien, her knight who was framed for the King’s murder.

Confined to darkness, Skylar's captors have given her no choice but to yield to a new kind of enemy, a domain that has advanced in both technology and warfare. It's only when she refuses that the prison uses other means of persuasion. Though unmerciful, the whip lashings and isolation can't suppress her memories. She's forced to face again both her brother's death and her father's emotional decline, though even the darkness can't hide the deceptive hands that have tormented them all. Advisor turned adversary, Cross Lutherus has brought the ancient bloodline to its knees, and Skylar is the only Mandolyn left to feel his wrath.

With two kingdoms on the brink of war, and the end of her life drawing near, Skylar's only hope is in the person who haunts her the most – Harlin, the knight who was sworn to protect her. His presence surrounds her when the darkness screams louder than the prisoners, when Death smiles a faceless grin in between the cracks of the stone. And it's his strength she embraces just as the tremors start to rise from the deep, crawling up through the prison's walls to terrorize the benighted realm and all its souls.

The mystery was never how Harlin escaped. It is how he will return.

Demons are dealing through the gateways and the balance of the realms is at risk. In the midst of her 'on the run' existence, a schoolgirl must trade her books for weapons and answer her 'Calling'. Whilst retrieving a human from another world, Carolyn is faced with a quick decision and ends up bringing a demon back with her. Little did she know the effect this being would have on her. Killing demons is no longer the simple challenge that it used to be. A new adventure is about to raise Carolyn to an Earth-shattering awakening!
"White offers an agile, endearing fantasy that fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer will adore. Her description of the call is perfectly realized: "an irresistible melodic pull, as though it was a choral magnet and she a metal filing." The narrative's strongest suit is its playfully steamy romance between destroyer and demon: "She held his wrists above his head...[and] nipped the tip of his nose with her teeth." A romping debut that's perfect for teenage fantasy fans." - Kirkus Reviews

The poetry you'll meet in this collection will be biting, defensive, cynical and sarcastic. Dark humour is used to elaborate upon bleak life outlooks. At many times the spirit in these poems are rooted in antonymous rebellion. All that said, the reader will also encounter various instances synonymous with the proverbial "light at the end of tunnel".

So What's Next! (SoWhat! Stories, #2) by G.J. Griffiths

Does this mean it might "hit the big time" at last? I sent a copy to the Midwest Book Review in Oregon and they added it to their Fiction Shelf with the critique below.

Synopsis: Molly Pearson is a young Biology teacher with two passions in her life: a strong commitment to protecting wildlife; and a desire to encourage the children in her classes to feel the same enthusiasm for Nature. When her class decide they would like to restore the school's neglected and vandalised nature corner her hopes are raised and challenged at the same time. The hurdles that she meets along the way will include bullied and bullying pupils, as well as the expected ones of finance and willing manpower. But leaping those fences does not prepare the ambitious Molly for a dramatic fire and the confusion of a new passion in her life, in the form of Oliver Shrimpton. Will he become that significant someone, or is he just another obstacle for her to overcome?

MWBR Critique: The sequel to G. J. Griffiths' "So What! Stories or Whatever!" (978-1484987100,), "So What's Next!" continues the trials and tribulations of Molly Pearson and the students of Birch Green High School. Of special note is the helpful information on creating and maintaining 'wildlife friendly' gardens.
Very well written and presented, "So What's Next!" is solidly entertaining from first page to last and clearly documents G. J. Griffiths as a master storyteller of the first order.

I can't wait to read what you think!

I'd like to nominate my newest release Hungry Gods. It's only been out for 10 days, so I don't have much in the way of reviews yet (though the paperback is up for a GR giveaway right now, so I hopefully will soon). Someone reading it right now told me it was a cross between Watchmen and The Walking Dead, and I think that sums it up pretty well.

Hungry Gods

Here's the book's blurb:

Superheroes. Undead. 'Nuff said.

The country's premier superhero team is missing. So when a mutant monstrosity goes on the rampage, it's Spitball to the rescue! He's a third-string hero today, determined to be first-string tomorrow. And the Army may be giving him just the chance he needs. Spitball's been invited to undertake a secret mission into America's heartland. What he's about to discover, however, is not a chance at stardom but a horror movie come to life...

Hungry Gods is a fast-paced adventure of costumed superheroes, government conspiracy theories, and flesh-eating zombies. Spandex adventure for adults.

Thank you for your consideration!

Few Are Chosen

This is actually perma free everywhere.

One bumbling getaway driver, an ex-gangster, a group of eccentric septuagenarians, two sassy, intelligent women from the wrong version of the universe and a bald, potty-mouthed parrot are all that stands between the indomitable forces of evil and world domination. It's time to save the world, or die trying.

Hilarious humorous science fiction fantasy action adventure - with a dash of clean romance - number 1 Literature & Fiction > British > Humor & Satire on Amazon.com.

Silver Medal winner, teen category, Wishing Shelf Book Awards, 2011.
Awesome Indies Seal of Approval holder.
IndePENdents seal holder. Written in British English with some light swearing: suggested rating PG.

Amazon blurb:

The Pan of Hamgee isn't paranoid. There must be some people in K'Barth who aren't out to get him. Unfortunately, right now, he's not sure where they are.

His family are dead, his existence is treason and he does the only thing he can to survive –getaway driving. As if being on the run isn't bad enough, he finds a magic thimble. He decides to keep it, which can only mean trouble. Sure enough, it does. He unwittingly sets himself on a collision course with Lord Vernon, K'Barth's despot ruler.

The Pan is forced to make choices and stand up for his beliefs. It's a challenge, since previously he had no beliefs he was aware of. Faced with a stark moral dilemma, he realises his new found integrity may even stick ... if he can stop running.

Think Douglas Adams meets James Bond, only with the gadgets rather than the spies... And cars. Flying cars. :-)

Blurb:

RISE, the fascinating story of how a facially scarred and reclusive sculptress breaks free upon discovering the true source of self-esteem.

No one can hide forever…

Riana “Ria” Ofor is a gifted sculptress whose beautiful creations could draw crowds. But due to the childhood accident that left her facially scarred, she avoids selling her work publicly, instead scraping a living through online sales. However, when a home repossession notice arrives, both her love of sculpting, as well as her home, suddenly come under threat. Now she is forced to step out of her comfort zone and enter the very public world of gallery showings.

When she does land a gallery contract, she then finds herself the target of a rival artist after the very same contract. Using malicious lies about Ria, he intends to make her regret taking what should have been his. Now, Ria must look to find a truth that conquers all lies.

Rejection is a lie…

An ideal book club suggestion, RISE not only asks life’s biggest questions, but answers them. And like the book’s main character, you too will be left considering all you thought you already knew.

Thrust into a world of men, can a timid girl find bravery as the first female Death?

Thirteen-year-old Suzie Sarnio always believed the Grim Reaper was a fairy tale image of a skeleton with a scythe. Now, forced to enter the College of Deaths, she finds herself training to bring souls from the Living World to the Hereafter. The task is demanding enough, but as the only female in the all-male College, she quickly becomes a target. Attacked by both classmates and strangers, Suzie is alone in a world where even her teachers want her to fail.

Scythes hungry for souls, Deaths who enslave a race of mysterious magicians, and echoes of an ancient war with Dragons.

As her year progresses, Suzie suspects her presence isn't an accident. She uncovers a plot to overthrow the World of Deaths. Now she must also discover the reason she's been brought there: the first female Death in a million years.

Scarlet Black | 1 comments Hi There!
I would like to nominate my New Adult Paranormal Romance, e.Vampire.com.
Blurb "When Jennifer Reese moves from rural Maine to Miami Florida, she and her friends stumble onto a gimmicky dating website, where the members seem to be "pretend vampires. She wants no part of it, but she's lonely, and once she sees Dorian Taylor's profile, she had to meet him! She is unaware that the website is not an ordinary website, nor is Dorian Taylor an ordinary man. He's obscenely handsome, wealthy and a self-admitted thrill seeker with a taste for adventurous sex. He's also a real vampire!
HERE IS GOODREADS LINK TO BOOK. IT HAS MANY REVIEWS AND WAS AN INTERNATIONAL BEST SELLER IN THE UK.
