Mhz, do you recall where or when the book was set for example 1980s America, 1990s England? do you recall how old the boy was or anything about the game?

The story was set in 2000s in US. It was a time that every family had a PC in their home. The boy must have been around 10 years old or bit older. I don't remember the details of the game, but I remember the game that he wrote was very basic at the beginning. Then boys' mother send the game to their lawyer which he in return sold to computer game company. The computer game company made the game a lot cooler and they would send fraction of the profit to the boy which was around a million dollars.

The boy stared to buy a lot of stuff every day. And finally he started to learn about spending money and decided to buy their own house so his mother would not have to pay the mortgage/rent. His mother was studying for a degree at the time.
