I bought Five Wives with the hope of joing y’all and then last week it was reduced to 1.99 on Kobo. I think it’s still at that price.
There are at least six on this list I want to read. But the one that has been most on my radar has been Letters Across the Sea. The Kim Echlin looks great too as is the collection of stories about Bangladeshi immigrants to Canada. Really hard to chose.
I'd be interested depending on the book chosen. It may help me break my reading slump. But after looking at the CBC list I KNOW I want to read The Case of the Murderous Dr. Cream: The Hunt for a Victorian Era Serial Killer. For that reason alone I'm glad I opened this discussion notification.
So many excellent choices! Letters Across the Sea would be a very accessible choice for most of us. Outside of that, I would like to read The Speed of Mercy or My Mother’s Daughter.
I recently read Letters Across the Sea and A Town Called Solace and enjoyed both. There are a lot of excellent choices. MY MOTHER'S DAUGHTER, SPEED OF MERCY and SPEAK, SILENCE are three that I am very interested in reading.
@EM and Kathleen - I would recommend My Mother’s Daughter for sure. It is excellent and is such an honest account of Perdita Felicien’s struggles growing up and how difficult it was for her mom. It would be a great discussion.
I’d be interested in reading Michael J Fox’s latest book also

Susan, I read No Time Like the Future by Micheal J. Fox in January and enjoyed it very much. Actually I listened to the audiobook.
From the CBC lists, I wouldn't mind reading:
Astra
And Miles to Go Before I Sleep977]
The Speed of Mercy
The Good Father
My Mother's Daughter (I have already read this one but it is excellent!
A Town Called Solace
Women of the Pandemic: Stories from the Frontlines of Covid-19
We, Jane

The Speed of Mercy

My Mother's Daughter (I have already read this one but it is excellent!

We, Jane
I would read A Town Called Solace, seems to have be read and/or gifted to quite a few members more recently. I'd also go with My Mother's Daughter or Letters Across The Sea too. Many good choices.
Hi all.... this post has been a bit quiet but here are the books that have been mentioned more than once:
A town called solace
My mother’s daughter
Letters Across the See
The Speed of Mercy
Please vote for your first choice!

I really want to read Letters Across the Sea and I hope I can convince you to join me. I have been asked to interview the author Genevieve Graham on Zoom for the big annual author event called Starfest sponsored by the St. Albert Public Library in Alberta every fall. If you comment (or send me your questions) I will know what to ask her!
If you haven't read it here, Home to Woefield would be a great summer read--funny and well written. If you have read it, the sequel is even better. I was just thinking that it's going to be time to finally reread these (the second one won the Stephen Leacock award)
Hi Eleanor - I love the idea of reading Letters Across the Sea and having you be able to ask questions. I saw your message just as I was heading into my first Costco trip since the lockdown and picked up a copy. :)
@Karen, many of us read the Woefield books a couple of years ago... they are funny!!

PS your autocorrect misspelled my name :) Karin :)
I am interested. Is this for the month of July and August?
I will be getting it from the library and the wait list is about 8 weeks. :(
❀ Susan wrote: "sorry Karin... I bet that happens often!anyone opposed to Letters Across the Sea??"
More and more when people talk to their phones especially. Autocorrect can cause far worse problems at times :)
I have put a hold in this from my library network and will try it out.
Hi all … wondering what everyone thinks about changing course and reading Five Little Indians in July and saving Letters Across the Sea for August?
I have an audio copy of Five Little Indians right now, count me in. This allows people time to get Letters Across The Sea.
Hi all - it seems like although there are few comments, we have some agreement on:
July - Five Little Indians
August - Letters Across the Sea
July - Five Little Indians
August - Letters Across the Sea
I finished Five Little Indians on audio today. I look forward to discussing this at the end of the month. Very timely.
Great! I picked up Letters Across the Sea from my library today, so may end up reading it early. I couldn't remember why I'd taken it out at first.
Five Little Indians was a five star read for me in April. It is a great book for a discussion. I will pick up Letters Across the Sea for August.
Finished reading Letters Across The Sea today, I look forward to discussing in August and gathering questions for Elinor to potentially ask the author Genevieve Graham on our behalf.

I've finished Across the Sea and am looking forward to the conversation. However, I have to return the book to the library ASAP--I couldn't renew it because there is a hold on it and it's late. I hadn't paid enough attention to the auto-renew emails to notice it wasn't renewed. There is only one hard copy in my library network--I just double checked.
@Karin, don't worry about having a copy of the book for reference. I own a copy and can look up any parts you wish when we have our discussion.
I am sorry… I have been slow to set something up. What dates work?
Maybe we should talk about both books at the same time?? Thoughts?

Just revisiting the idea of a Zoom to discuss the books we read? I'm available most anytime. Anyone interested?
Gah! I missed all of this conversation and therefore the opportunity to read and join in. Too bad! I hope it's fun! It certainly was awesome to meet by Zoom to discuss Five Wives earlier this year. Anyone interested in a group read for Sept/Oct? Should we open a new thread?
@Allison, we actually haven't had the Zoom yet, still in the works....so not too late to join the conversation! I would like to continue to have group reads, I echo your suggestion, from another thread, And Miles To Go Before I Sleep by J. Saucier as for the amount of group members who have it on their radar!
Thanks Wanda! I won’t get these books read in time, but I’d be up for And Miles to Go if there’s appetite for that one next!
@Wanda and @Allison, I have put And Miles to Go Before I Sleep on reserve at the library. It doesn't look like a long waiting list, so I hope to have it this month. I'm looking forward to reading it, and it would be more fun to do it as a fall read with both of you and others in our group.
I read And Miles to Go Before I Sleep a while back and would be happy to have a chat about it. I loved it. I have Letters Across the Sea waiting to be read, but I doubt I will get to it before your discussion.
