SOLVED. YA Thriller set at an exclusive boarding school with dark magic/transfiguration aspect. The location of the school changed every year and this book was set in Paris or Rome. [s]

Main character was a teenage girl not as well off as the other wealthy characters that went to this academy. There was a romance subplot but the main plot was that there was something wrong with the students/teachers of the school. Think the twist was the students had these spirits/demons/weird power implanted in them and the main character had to decide if she wanted this to happen to her. I remember a character, maybe called Raj?, who was described as having really intense striking eyes.

I think I read this about 2009/2010 purchased at a book store. I think it may have became a series? Thanks for the help!
