I created a list for Hippie Fiction and am desperately trying to find a book to add to it. I know I've seen this book on Goodreads within the last 6 months, read part of it online, and liked at least one of the reviews, but it seems to have vanished into thin air.
This is a middle grade book about a young boy who lives on a farm with his grandparents in the countryside. His world is shaken up when a pair of hippies (at least two, maybe more) move in next door. There's a lot of tension in the community, and the boy's grandparents were conservative and didn't want him associating with them. I believe the hippies were a couple, possibly with a baby.
The boy was somewhere between the ages of 10 and 13. It's possible that the boy had a crush on the female hippie neighbor, but that's just speculation. He was too young for actual romance. I don't remember why the boy was living with his grandparents. It's also remotely possible it was an aunt and uncle, not grandparents. I believe the book was published in the '70s.
