Aasiyah | 2 comments Hi, I read a book maybe a year or two ago, I believe it was a series, maybe a trilogy, with the premise being that a girl, with a few sisters, (I think there were two) is competing in some kind of tournament that she is not supposed to. Her sister catches her in the beginning of the book and warns her not to. The girl's father is a commander or general in the king's army and his wife is disrespected because of her race, the children are often ridiculed due to who he married. In the beginning of the book one of his daughters is complimented on how fair skinned she is. Later on in the books the father is called to war and the main character turns out to be blackmailed to compete in these tournaments. There is also a prince who she later meets, who also participates in these tournaments although his grandmother or mother doesn't want him to and thinks it's beneath him and tries to stop him. I think it develops into a romance between the two.
Spoiler...

I'm not sure if it was the same book or not but I believe the main character finds out her mother gets holed up in a crypt underground, sealed in alive. Please help me find this book, it's been bugging me!

Nicole | 41 comments Parts of this lines up with "The Cruel Prince" by Holly Black. Jude, the main character, has two sisters, she and her twin sister are bullied for being human in faerie land, her father is commander of the King's army, she enters a tournament which is also entered by Prince Cardan.
