I remember this book called "My Dad the Soap Star," but when I google that title nothing comes up.

I remember reading the book around 2006-2008. But it was definitely published in the 80s (maybe early 90s). The cover had the main character's best friend (who I think was called "Crazy Danny") standing up dramatically on the cafeteria table to read a fan letter written to the main character's dad. They were all dressed in classic 80s teen book cover clothes.

They lived in New York and his dad was a working actor on a soap opera, but his family was middle class until his dad suddenly got a new storyline I think. Which catapulted him into popularity.

His father never answered fan mail. Then the main character and his friends decided to answer some of his dad's fan mail. I believe that an intense fan began to stalk their family? It resolves after a big incident where the parents learned their son and his friends were replying as his dad to fans.

He then relates to his dad more and they grow closer.
