If anyone gets to the suggestions before me and wants to throw one of those in the ring, feel free!

Rachel can you share this list or direct me to a link? I tried to search but there were hundreds of songs, which would make it basically a free choice. I didn't think there were that many. I want to see if there is one that gives me a clear compelling topic I can work with.

Love this idea and would totally vote for it! I unapologetically loooove YA, and there are so many options in that genre which are actually well written and great reads for those of us who are now only YA at heart. Ha. (My favorite YA book ever - In Other Lands - would be perfect for this prompt.)

It could be seen as a free choice but I think with a prompt like this, you still have to search for a Disney song that fits the book (or vice versa). There is still a fun aspect to making that connection between the book and a song. This would be one of the few prompts that I wouldn't pick the book first. I'd pick the song (or movie) first just to make it more challenging.
I am currently challenge-less since I finished the Summer Reading Challenge. I am thinking about picking a Disney movie and reading books for each of the songs in that movie. I think that would be fun.

I'd rather it was narrower (I can't think of a way to do that, unfortunately), or just take away the Disney connection and have it be a book connected to a song title. Though I think that's been put forward in previous years and not done well.

"Glass" could be in the title, on the cover (windows, drinking glass, spectacles, shards of glass), about something generally made of glass, or glass plays a part in the story, eg. Cinderella.
I wonder if the idea would fly if it were reworked, like:
A book related to glass, to mark 2022, the UN International Year of Glass (adds the reason for the prompt)
A book related to the phrase "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." (adds a theme that might be fun? )
A book related to "glass houses" (same as above but less specific?)
Or just resubmit the original prompt?
- this is probably for the next round...

Oh dear, I would upvote a general Disney prompt, but my Disney experience is more along the lines of Bambi, Snow White, etc... and Frozen. I could do something with Frozen for sure. Fantasia would be interesting with all the classical music.
ok I just got excited about the Disney prompt, so long as the classics in Fantasia are "Disney songs" and the prompt isn't about lyrics. The list:
The Nutcracker Suite
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Rite of Spring
The Pastoral Symphony
Dance of the Hours
Night on Bald Mountain
Ave Maria

Thanks Anastasia. It got me thinking. I liked the racism/race-relations prompt this year and I hope we have the same concept this year, perhaps using different words. I like cultural themes in general. Cross-cultural interactions. A "fish out of water" story.
I liked the comfort read prompt, and books that can make you feel something. I don't know this would work as a prompt. "A book that makes you feel something" or "a book with all the feels."
Isolation/loneliness -is a common theme, and it's timely due to covid and tech that makes it easier to avoid people.
"A book with a character facing isolation or loneliness."
Other themes:
Redemption
Forgiveness/letting go
Overcoming challenges
David vs Goliath
Coming of age
Bravery/courage/"feel the fear and do it anyway" stories

I wonder if the prompt was changed to be, take the quiz, then read a book related to your result? That would narrow it down for people.

I’m one that loves the Disney prompt to my core, but I’d worry about limiting it too much. Some may not like toy story or the quiz song that gets picked. Or they may not know anything about the quiz song but feel it would be cheating to take it again (it wouldn’t).
I think it’s a classic scenario of we can’t please everyone with the prompts.

"A book with a character facing isolation or loneliness."
"
I would upvote that!
"A book that makes you feel something" might be difficult to know before reading the book.

I don't think I would vote for isolation/loneliness. Many people are facing another potential lockdown after already being locked down for over a year already, I really REALLY don't want to read about someone who is alone and lonely while I am well, essentially alone and lonely.

Do you think it would help to narrow it down to 'classic Disney movie'? I think a lot of us who love the prompt would define that as the 90s movies we grew up with, but others could use the early classics, and even 'golden era' Pixar (think John Lassiter era) wouldn't be much of a stretch. That way no one feels the pressure/'freebie'ness of digging through long lists of songs, but most people could still use a song they're likely to have some connection or nostalgia for.

As for a book that makes you feel something, ALL books make me feel something, so that might be a bit to broad for me.

Circle of Life is a winner! It makes me think of ecosystems, aging, mortality, wildlife, and leadership succession - all topics I can work with. Most of those topics are actually in the book I'm reading now (Once There Were Wolves). I looked at many titles and lyrics, and I didn't spot anything else I liked better (except for a song from Newsies which is live action). The Toy Story song about friends would be easy to match too.

Two fascinating books on the subject:
Targeted: My Inside Story of Cambridge Analytica and How Trump and Facebook Broke Democracy, Mindf*ck: Cambridge Analytica and the Plot to Break America
I know that I should stop taking quizzes about books I read because you can tell a lot about a person by what they read.

I suggested it the first time round and I don't think adding the reason to the prompt does anything other than make it overly wordy. I think a lot of people liked it but it was the first round so there were lots of good options. It's on my list to resubmit but I'm not sure I'd do so in the fun prompts coup poll if we're doing that.
A book related to glass, to mark 2022, the UN International Year of Glass - I like that wording best.
I wouldn't go for the loneliness one, although there are plenty of books that apply (all those old curmudgeons, for instance)

Isolation or loneliness is present in many books to some degree (it's one way an author makes the character more relatable), marketing reps might be afraid to even say the word out loud. :)
I should add connection or friendship to the prompt. Books about loneliness are usually also about making connections or friends. Many have happy or hopeful endings. Literary authors might view it as a realistic part of the human condition, so they won't be as upbeat.
I agree that I it would be hard to preplan an emotional book, though reviews, recommendations, and familiar authors can help. I didn't do much advance planning but I did choose books that could conceivable fit many different prompts.

I also like this prompt in some form. I think it will make for some fun and interesting searching for appropriate books. I really enjoy prompts that can lead to something surprising. I like the prompt: "A book related to glass, to mark 2022, the UN International Year of Glass" because it's also clearly tied to the year.

I agree. I'm hoping that 2022 will mean the end of this stupid pandemic (or is it the pandemic of stupidity?) so I could go for a prompt on the theme of "Resilience" or "Liberation" or something like that.

I would include any extra information like that with your prompt. Maybe even tell us a little about how glass is used now, to help people find connections to their favorite topics. I went to the Corning Glass museum several years ago (the art is gorgeous, and I got to make some things myself). They displayed many ways it's used in the tech/communications industries now. A sample list of books never hurts.

A book related to glass
2022 is the UN International Year of Glass.
Could be in the title, on the cover (windows, drinking glass, spectacles, shards of glass), about something generally made of glass, or glass plays a part in the story, eg. Cinderella.

I like resilience a lot. Having human connections is just one of the ways to build resilience. Resilience plays into the feisty old person and up-lit ideas too. We're starting to see memoirs about people's experiences under lockdown, and I hope we'll get some that are very instructive, and even entertaining.
Up-lit idea too, as well as the Betty White prompt

I haven't had any challenges with Bildungsroman books, but I'm in a group that might like it. Do you happen to have any good links to definitions or lists? I get the impression it's coming of age, but taken a little further, with a focus on character/maturiry?

Shannon what are you planning to submit today, Betty or LBT+++love

Bildungsroman is just coming of age, I believe. Pop Sugar did it last year, here's the Listopia
I like up-lit and would vote for that over a book about loneliness. That just sounds depressing, even if it ends up being uplifting.

I agree, and I was going to wait on the feisty old lady prompt. I hope Shannon will submit Betty White today.

Please resubmit the Glass prompt. I really liked it and was sad it didn't make it on, but that was sooooooooooo long ago I had already forgotten it by now.😉😁

It's literally just a list I made on Word on my computer, but I'd be happy to share if someone has a suggestion of the most effective way to do that. it also doesn't contain any song titles, just names of movies that I personally felt had enough songs to choose from.
Personally, I don't see the need to reword the prompt to be more limiting. I think anyone can feel free to limit themselves however they want (quiz, classic Disney only, etc.) but I purposely worded it to be left open enough that everyone could find something. Absolutely feel free to choose those kinds of options if you want, but I'd rather leave the wording as is.
